GREENVILLE, SC - The Greenville Road Warriors announced today that, along with the Greenville Area Mary Kay Independent Sales Force, they will host their inaugural "Pink in the Rink" event when they take on the South Carolina Stingrays on Friday, January 21 at 7:05 p.m. at the BI-LO Center.

During the game, in an effort to raise money and awareness in the fight against breast cancer, the Road Warriors will wear pink-themed jerseys, which will be auctioned off via silent auction during the game. Proceeds from the auction will be donated to the Mary Kay Foundation.

In addition to proceeds from the jersey auction, the Road Warriors will donate a portion of the proceeds from game tickets purchased in advance from local Mary Kay sales representatives to the foundation, and one dollar from every full-value, face-value ticket purchased at the BI-LO Center box office on the day of the game will be donated to the Mary Kay Foundation. Proceeds from the night's chuck-a-puck game will also be donated so be sure to visit the chuck-a-puck table.

On top of the fund raising efforts, the Road Warriors plan to honor local breast cancer survivors and representatives from a local shelter during a ceremony at intermission. During intermission you will see Mary Kay Corporate Cars drive onto the ice and two will be displayed on the BI-LO Center concourse, and an information table will be set up on the concourse so fans can get more information on the Mary Kay Products and Mary Kay Foundation. There will even be free pink t-shirts given away at the game!

Even after the "Pink in the Rink" game, the festivities will continue! At the January 24 edition of "Road Warriors Live" at Quaker Steak and Lube Road Warriors players will serve as guest bartenders and the tips they earn will be donated to the Mary Kay Foundation. The show will take place from 7:00 - 7:30 p.m. but the players will tend the bar until 9:00. Road Warriors head coach Dean Stork, as well as team president and general manager Neil Smith, are scheduled to join "The Voice of the Road Warriors" Ray Schmitt for the show.

ABOUT THE MARY KAY FOUNDATION:

Virtually everyone has been touched by cancer in some way. Mary Kay's personal encounter came in 1980 when her husband, Mel Ash, died of lung cancer. Subsequently, each time a member of the extended Mary Kay family was diagnosed with cancer, she became even more determined to work to find a cure.

In 1987, Mary Kay decided to put her money where her heart was and asked employees at Mary Kay Inc. and the independent sales force to do the same. Together they began raising funds for cancer research, and in 1996, the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation was established to formalize the raising and distributing of research funds for cancers affecting women. In 2009, the name of the Foundation was changed to The Mary Kay Foundation.

Domestic Violence Added to Our Mission.

Mary Kay cared about all issues affecting women. Her mission was to enrich women's lives around the world. So when the first domestic violence shelter was being established in Dallas, the founders naturally came to her for potential funding, volunteers and product donations.

Mary Kay responded with support. She knew domestic violence was a problem in the community. In time, she began to hear how prevalently this issue affected the Mary Kay Inc. independent sales force across the nation. So in July 2000, the Foundation embraced a second mission: to prevent violence against women.

Who's at Risk

It could be your sister. Your mother. Your friend. It could even be you. It's alarming to know that in a lifetime, one woman in three will develop some form of cancer, and one woman in three will be a victim of violence. By helping one another, woman can make a difference in these statistics.
