Trenton Devils News Release

Trenton, NJ - Three different Nailers registered multiple points and Peter Delmas made 32 saves on 33 shots as Wheeling earned its fourth win in five games against the Devils this season, a 4-1 victory Wednesday at Sun National Bank Center. The loss extends the Devils' season-high losing streak to four games, as Trenton's record drops to 13-17-0-3. By winning their second straight, the Nailers improve to 19-14-0-2, widening Wheeling's lead in the North Division to five points over the second place Cincinnati Cyclones.

With Dave Caruso recalled to AHL-Albany, Shane Connelly started for the second time in the last three games, and took the loss after stopping 25 of the Nailers' 29 shots against him. Connelly's record drops to 2-7-1-1, 0-3-0-1 for the Devils, with the Cheltenham, PA native still in search of his first win in a Trenton uniform.

A bright spot for the Devils in their loss Wednesday was their captain, Trevor Kell, who netted his sixth goal of the season in the second period, playing for Trenton for the first time since November 13. Ryan Ginand broke a three-game pointless streak by earning a helper on Kell's marker, moving Ginand into a three-way tie for fifth place in ECHL scoring with 36 points.

The story of the game though was the Nailers' balanced attack, which saw Ben Street (2g, 2a), Mikael Bedard (2g, 1a) and David Urquhart (2 assists) compile multi-point games. Ben Street's four points move him into a tie with Kael Mouillierat of the Idaho Steelheads atop the ECHL rookie-scoring race with 36 points. Earlier in the day, Street had been reassigned to the Nailers from AHL-Wilkes-Barre Scranton and Urquhart from AHL-Hamilton.

But while Street was the offensive headliner, the Nailers' strong supporting cast which entered the game with the league's fourth-ranked offense, also made big contributions in the club's first visit to Sun National Bank Center this season. Mikael Bedard scored two goals to earn him his first-career two-goal game in the ECHL, potting his first of the night 5:13 into the first period to open the scoring on an impressive setup from Street and Nick Petersen. Street made the score 2-0 10:22 later by scoring past Shane Connelly on a great fake though Devils defenders.

Although it appeared as if Trevor Kell's score - which narrowed Wheeling's lead to 2-1 in the second period - was Trenton's ticket back into the game, Street scored his second goal 29 seconds after Kell struck for Trenton, restoring Wheeling's two-goal lead and putting a damper on Trenton's comeback plans. Mikael Bedard capped the scoring at even strength 14:44 into the third period to make the score 4-1.

The Devils will attempt to halt their losing streak Friday night when they hose the Elmira Jackals at 7:00 p.m. This will be the eighth of 16 meetings between Trenton and Elmira this season, with the Devils having won three of the last four contests against their division rival.
