Road Trip Ends In Style, Sea Dogs Crush Akron, 11-2

(Akron, OH) - The Portland Sea Dogs (38-30) used a 6-run second inning to clobber the Akron Aeros (39-27) 11-2 on Sunday afternoon in front of 4,283 at Canal Park. The 'Dogs ended a 4-game losing streak and finished their 6-game journey through Erie and Akron at 2-4. The Aeros won the season series from Portland, taking five of six.

Portland starter Kris Johnson (4-3) earned his first win since May 8, hurling six strong innings on two runs and five hits. The lefty recorded a season-high in strikeouts with seven and walked three.

Akron had four straight baserunners in the bottom of the first inning against Johnson. Trevor Crowe and Josh Rodriguez walked with Chris Gimenez singling to load the bases. Wes Hodges delivered a 2-run single for Akron's only runs. Johnson retired 16 of 21 to end his start.

Ryan Edell (3-5) lasted only 1.2 innings on six hits, six runs (three earned) to take the loss for Akron.

Portland sent 12 men to the plate in the second inning off Edell and Shawn Nottingham. Iggy Suarez and Bubba Bell drove in the first two runs with bases-loaded singles. Tony Granadillo reached on a fielder's choice when Edell bobbled the check-swing grounder, allowing Ryan Khoury to score. Jeff Corsaletti followed with a run-scoring single and Sandy Madera reached on a fielder's choice but an error by the third baseman scored Bell from third base. John Otness capped off the scoring with a bases-loaded walk.

Chad Rhoades, Daniel Bard and Beau Vaughan worked scoreless frames in relief of Johnson to secure the win.

Portland had at least one hit from all nine starters and an RBI from 7 of 9. Otness extended his hitting streak to 10 games with an RBI triple in the fourth. Mickey Hall followed with a 2-run homer. Granadillo smacked a two-out, solo-homer in the fifth inning. Madera drove in the final run of the roadtrip with a single in the seventh.

Suarez went 3-for-5, 2 runs scored. Granadillo, Khoury and Madera each had two hits. Otness reached base four times and finished 3-for-10 on the roadtrip.
