Jackson Homers Again But Trenton Falls To Reading 11-3

(Reading, PA)- Reading score five unearned runs in the 5th inning and went on to defeat Trenton 11-3 in the rubber game of a three-game series at First Energy Stadium on Sunday afternoon in Reading, PA. Eight of Reading's 11 runs were two-out runs. With the defeat, Trenton lost only its second road series on the season (8-2-2). The loss was Trenton's largest margin of defeat on the season, and the most runs scored by an opponent against the Thunder in one game.

With the score tied at 2-2 in the 5th inning, Reading (25-40) had runners at 1st and 2nd base and two outs against Thunder starting pitcher George Kontos (2-6). Reading DH Mike Eylward delivered the go-ahead two-run double to give Reading a 4-2 lead. Two batters later, LF Mike Spidale increased the lead to 7-2, with a three-run home run off of Kontos. The home run was Spidale's 4th of the season, and it was the 9th that Kontos has allowed this season. Kontos ended up going 5 IP and allowing 7 H and 7 R (2 earned). He struck out 8, walked 5, and hit a batter.

Trenton (42-26) took a 2-0 lead against Reading starting pitcher Fabio Castro in the first inning. With one out, CF Austin Jackson smacked a solo home run for his 6th home run of the season. It was Jackson's third straight day with a home run against Reading, and he has hit four of his six home runs against the Phillies. Two batters later, DH Edwar Gonzalez connected on a solo home run to make it 2-0. The home run was his 3rd of the season and first since May 24th. Trenton scored its final run in the 8th inning on an RBI single by RF Jose Tabata. Reading reliever Travis Minix (1-1) earned the win going 2.2 scoreless IP. Reading starting pitcher Fabio Castro received a no-decision as he gave up 4 H and 2 ER in 4 IP.

Trenton will look to bounce back on Tuesday night, as the Thunder start a three-game series with the Harrisburg Senators, the Double-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals. Trenton is off on Monday. RHP Alfredo Aceves (1-2, 2.00) will start for Trenton. Harrisburg's starting pitcher for Tuesday is TBA.
