Road Trip Begins with a Loss

The Winnipeg Goldeyes have lost back-to-back games for just the second time this season.

Winnipeg (18-8) fell 3-2 to the Sioux City Explorers (14-14) Thursday night in front of 791 fans to begin a four-game series and seven-game road trip.

Sioux City scored singles in the second, third and fifth innings to take a 3-0 lead the Goldeyes couldn't recover from.

Winnipeg scored its first run in the sixth inning when Chris Roberson touch home plate on a Yurendell de Caster single. The Goldeyes other run came in the eighth off de Caster's second RBI single of game, which scored Jon Weber.

At the dish, de Caster finished three-for-three with two RBI for the Goldeyes.

Chris Salamida lasted seven and a third innings, but takes the loss after allowing all three Sioux City runs.

Jason Jarvis got the win for Sioux City, while Chris Bodishbaugh pitched the ninth inning for his sixth save of the season.

The game was delayed for more than an hour by rain.

The second game of the series goes tomorrow night in Sioux City. Matt Rusch (3-0, 1.72) goes for Winnipeg against Sioux City's Alain Quijano (1-2, 2.63).

The pre-game show on TSN 1290 with Paul Edmonds begins at 6:30 p.m. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
