El Paso Diablos News Release

EL PASO, TX- The Diablos have played the brand new Laredo Lemurs four times at Uni Trade Stadium, and have come away with hearts broken each time.

El Paso dropped its fourth straight game to the franchise playing its inaugural season, again falling by a single run. This time, the Lemurs finished off a 6-5 victory on John Allen's walk off infield single in the bottom of the ninth, overcoming a late deficit to snap the club's four-game losing streak.

The Diablos did well to fight back from an early deficit of their own, as Laredo jumped on El Paso starter Kyle Kreich for three runs in the very first inning. Kreich, making his first start in a Diablos uniform, allowed four hits in that first inning but would allow only one more over the next four and two thirds innings, and gave way to reliever Ronny Morla with a chance to win.

That was largely thanks to relative newcomer Jimmy Rohan, playing in just his eighth game for the Diablos. Rohan hit two home runs on the night, both off Lemurs starter Todd Privett, becoming the first Diablos player in 2012 to hit more than one in a game. Rohan's first blast, a solo shot in the fifth, got El Paso on the board and his second, a two-run tater, gave the Diablos a 5-4 lead after Jonathan Cisneros' two-run double had pulled the visitors to within one.

But once again, El Paso faltered in the late innings. Just 4-9 when leading after six frames, the Diablos left Ronny Morla in for the seventh and found themselves in a two-on, two-out jam. Morla induced a ground ball from eventual hero John Allen that rolled right through the legs of third baseman Enrique Cruz and into left field, scoring Phillip Incaviglia and knotting the game at five runs apiece.

The Diablos had just one base runner reach scoring position the rest of the evening and finished with five runs on nine hits, stranding six.

Morla (1-3) was still in the game in the ninth and retired the first man he faced, but then allowed a single to Mojica and walked the next two batters before Allen's dribbler to short won it for Laredo.

Chaz Roe (1-2) picked up the win in relief for Laredo, shutting out El Paso over an inning and a third to finish the ball game.

The Diablos will try and even the series on Friday and garner their first win against the division rival Lemurs. First pitch is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. (MST).
