Peoria Rivermen News Release

Two winning streaks collided on Friday in Milwaukee only to see the Admirals extend theirs to five games with a 3-1 win over the Peoria Rivermen at the BMO Harris Bradley Center. Brett Sonne scored Peoria's only goal as the Rivermen three-game streak ended at the hands of goaltender Magnus Hellberg. Mike McKenna turned in another strong performance with 33 saves in the Peoria net.

Milwaukee took an early lead on just 4:20 into the first period. Kevin Henderson shot bounced into a prime position for Mark Van Guilder. His first shot was stopped but he followed his own rebound for his 12th goal of the season.

The game-tying goal came at 8:45 on a friendly bounce for Sonne. From the corner he backhanded a shot which ricocheted off of Hellberg into the net to tie the game 1-1. Andre Bouvet-Morrissette was credited with the assist on the goal that snapped a three-game, 150:40 scoreless streak against the Milwaukee goaltender.

Midway through the third period, Peoria was called for a too many men on the ice penalty, and the Admirals took advantage of their power play. Joshua Shalla dove to pass the puck to Mattias Ekholm, who then shot it towards the netl. Austin Watson tipped in the puck, his 17th goal of the season, at 11:36.

Later in the third frame, Daniel Bang was tripped up from behind on a breakaway opportunity, giving him a penalty shot. However, McKenna made the blocker save on his left shoulder to deny Bang and keep the score 2-1.

Peoria emptied the net with two minutes remaining in the game. Craig Smith stole the puck in Milwaukee's zone, skated it up to center ice, and passed it to Brad Winchester, who pushed in the empty-net goal. Patrick Cehlin also assisted on the game's final goal.

The Rivermen went 0-for-3 on the powerplay, while Milwaukee was 1-for-2. The Admirals outshot Peoria 36-25, including 15-4 in the third period.

The Rivermen begin a five-game homestand against the Chicago Wolves on Friday at 7:05 p.m. The first 1,000 kids 12 and under will receive a hockey stick courtesy of Hyvee. For tickets or more information call 309-676-1040.
