The Binghamton Senators kicked off a weekend of back-to-back home games last Friday as they hosted the Adirondack Phantoms. The teams would trade leads throughout the game, with the Phantoms ultimately ending up on top 3-2.
Stephane Da Costa and Cole Schneider each tallied goals for the B-Sens.
Garrett Roe, Matt Mangene, and Tyler Brown had the goals for the Phantoms.
Nathan Lawson took the loss for Binghamton after stopping 33 of 36 shots. Brian Boucher started between the pipes for Adirondack, turning aside 38 of 30 shots.
Saturday, March 16: Norfolk 1, Binghamton 5
Shots: Norfolk 35, Binghamton 39
PP: Norfolk 1 for 4, Binghamton 2 for 7
The Norfolk Admirals made their final visit of the regular season to the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena last Saturday. The B-Sens would roll to a 5-1 victory over the visiting Admirals in a penalty-packed game that saw a total of 81 penalty minutes issued to the division rivals.
Mark Stone and Michael Sdao scored on the power play for Binghamton while Chris Wideman, Wacey Hamilton and Jean-Gabriel Pageau earned even-strength goals.
Sami Vatanen had the lone goal for Norfolk.
Nathan Lawson earned his third straight start, making 42 saves on 43 shots. Frederik Andersen started in goal for the Admirals stopping 26 of 31 shots faced.
Record: 37-19-1-5
Standings: The B-Sens are second place overall in the East Division (80 points).
THIS WEEK...
Friday, March 22 vs. Albany Devils (New Jersey Devils) - 7:05 p.m.
The B-Sens will kick off their eighth three games in three nights stretch of the season as the face the Albany Devils at home tonight. Binghamton last played Albany at home on Feb. 22; a 5-3 loss for the B-Sens.
The B-Sens enter tonight's match-up with a 2-2-0-1 record against the Devils this season.
Albany currently sits in third place in the Northeast Division with a 27-22-1-10 record and 65 points. Despite sitting in the middle of the division, the Devils have gone 6-3-0-1 in their last ten games.
Forward Joe Whitney leads the team with 22 goals and 41 points. He also leads the team in plus/minus with +17.
Promotions: Tonight is Faith & Family Night! Fans are encouraged to come early for a special pre-game concert on the main concourse of the arena performed by Christian rock band New Method. Doors open at 6 p.m.
Saturday, March 23 vs. Hamilton Bulldogs (Montreal Canadiens) - 7:05 p.m.
After tonight's game against Albany, the B-Sens prepare to take on the Hamilton Bulldogs for the final time this season. Binghamton last faced the Bulldogs in Hamilton on March 1 where the B-Sens came away with the win, 3-2.
The two teams have met at Scotiabank Place in Ottawa the past three seasons. Tomorrow marks the Bulldogs first visit to the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena since Jan. 24, 2009; a 5-3 Hamilton win.
Hamilton enters the weekend with a record of 24-31-1-5 and 54 points. They are ranked fifth in the North Division.
Center Michael Bournival leads the team in points (23) among active players. Bournival and Nathan Beaulieu lead the team with 16 assists.
Promotions: Tomorrow is Parrot Head Beach Party Night presented by TownSquare Media and the Pirates of the Susquehanna Parrot Head Club! The evening features a pre-game party beginning at 6 p.m. on the arena concourse. Trop rock duo Dos Guys will perform from 6 to 7 p.m. and fans are encouraged to visit the tiki bar for island drinks.
The Pirates of the Susquehanna Parrot Head Club will be on the arena concourse raffling off gift baskets throughout the evening's game. All proceeds from the raffle benefit the Binghamton Vet Center and Southern Tier Veterans Support Group.
There also will be a post-game beach party on the concourse featuring the Susquehanna Rum Runners, the region's premier Jimmy Buffet tribute band.
Also on Saturday the Broome Sports Foundation will present the 2013 Tommy Mitchell Memorial Scholarships in a special pre-game ceremony.
Six local high school and college students have been chosen as 2013 recipients; Melissa Ash (Junior, Buffalo State College), Joseph Eiskant (Vestal High School), Andrew Schutt (Vestal High School), Colin Szymanski (Maine-Endwell High School), Matthew Wagner (Vestal High School) and Robert Wassel (Vestal High School).
Sunday, March 24 @ Connecticut Whale (New York Rangers) - 3 p.m.
The B-Sens will head on the road Sunday to face the Connecticut Whale for the second and final time this season. Binghamton last played the Whale on March 8 in a 3-0 shutout at home, goaltender Nathan Lawson's first of the season.
Having only ever played Connecticut 13 times, Binghamton holds an 8-4-0-1-0 series against the Whale.
Connecticut is currently second in the Northeast Division with a 30-25-5-3 record and 68 points.
Kris Newbury's 37 assists lead his Whale teammates and ranks him seventh in the American Hockey League. He also leads the team with 55 points.
Wednesday, March 27 @ Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (Pittsburgh Penguins) - 7:05 p.m.
Binghamton will visit their East Division rival in Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday. This will be the final time the B-Sens will face the Penguins at Mohegan Sun Arena. They last took on Wilkes-Barre Feb. 16 in a 5-2 loss at home.
The B-Sens are 6-1-0-1 versus the Penguins this season.
Wilkes-Barre enters the weekend sitting in third in the East Division with 71 points and a 34-27-2-1 record.
Goaltender Jeff Zatkoff is ranked second in the AHL with a 2.01 goals-against average. Forward Chad Kolarik is tied for second in the AHL in power play goals with 12.
SENS SNIPPETS...
Rookie Michael Sdao scored his first professional goal on the power play in Binghamton's 5-1 victory over Norfolk last Saturday. The Princeton University product signed an amateur try-out contract with the B-Sens on March 14. He has appeared in two games so far recording one goal and five penalty minutes.
B-SENS BRINGING IT HOME TO THE COMMUNITY...
Throughout the month of March, the B-Sens will have four custom built lockers designed by the B-Sens players on display on the arena concourse. The lockers will be raffled off to benefit Broome County Habitat for Humanity. Raffle tickets can be purchased for $5. The winner will be drawn on March 30.
