NEWS AND NOTES

Congrats are in order.Rick Wamsley picked up the first win of his professional head coaching career on Friday night against the Toronto Marlies. Since Wamsley took over on Jan. 2, the Rivermen are 1-2-1 but are an impressive 7-for-16 (43.8 percent) on the power-play.

Power Surge.Peoria went 4-for-6 on the power-play against the Marlies en route to a 5-1 win. The four power-play goals scored were the most by the Rivermen since Dec. 26, 2006 when they went 4-for-9 against the Grand Rapids Griffins. Grand Rapids was 3-for-9 and Peoria won the game 4-3.

Multiplicity.Lars Eller picked up his team leading 7th multi-point game of the season with two assists on Friday night. He has had two three-point nights (Dec. 4 and Dec. 19). Fellow rookie Aaron Palushaj is second with five multi-point games.

Troublesome trend. The Rivermen have allowed a power-play goal in 16 consecutive games, dating back to Dec. 2. They have killed off 75-of-93 (80.6 percent) over that stretch but surprisingly 10-6-1 since Dec. 2

Topping the Charts..Both Rivermen all-stars Lars Eller and Jonas Junland are near the top of the scoring ratings amongst their AHL peers. Eller ranks third in points (28) and fourth in assists (22) while his 18 minor penalties are second among rookies in the league. Junland's 28 points, nine goals and seven power-play goals are all tops among AHL defensemen. He is also third with 100 shots on goal.

Complete Recovery...Nicholas Drazenovic setup Justin Fletcher for Peoria's only goal on Saturday. Both Drazenovic (11 games) and Fletcher (25 games) have missed significant time due to injury lately. Since being activated, Drazenovic has four points (2g, 2a) in six games while Fletcher scored for the first time in seven games since returning.

Hitting halfway...Sunday was Peoria's 20th home game of the season and next Friday will be Peoria's 40th game of the season. They were 21-17-2 and in fourth place at the midway point last season on their way to a second place finish. The all-star game will be held on Jan. 19 in Portland, ME. The Rivermen will be represented by Jonas Junland and Lars Eller.
