Peoria Rivermen News Release

NEWS AND NOTES

Goaltending turnaround... Over the past nine games, the Rivermen have dropped from a league-worst 3.69GAA on Nov. 18 to 3.28 as of Monday. Since allowing 6 goals in a 6-0 loss to Abbotsford on Nov. 13, Ben Bishop is 3-1-0 with a 1.72GAA and a .936 save percentage. Hannu Toivonen is just 1-4-0 but has posted a 2.43 GAA and a .921 save percentage in splitting time with Bishop.

Good as new...Derek Armstrong, who missed 12 games with an injury dating back to Nov. 1, scored a goal in the first period of his first game back on Friday. He has four goals in eight games during his injury plagued season.

Killing it off...Manitoba's only goal in Friday's 7-1 Rivermen win stopped a stretch of 28 consecutive successful penalty kills. Since Nov. 14 they have killed 43 of their last 47 penalties (91.4 percent).

Third period struggles...The Rivermen are being outscored 36-17 in the third period of games. They are 0-6-1 when trailing after two periods.

Road weary...After the season started with 14 of Peoria's first 22 games at home, nine of their 13 games during December are on the road and a different nine of their 13 games will be against the North Division. They will travel to Texas, Houston, Abbotsford, Grand Rapids, Lake Erie and Toronto before New Years.

Even more overtime...Ten of Peoria's first 25 games of the season have gone into overtime and seven of their 12 wins have come after regulation. The Rivermen are tied with Bridgeport (8-2) for the most OT games in the league. Peoria is 3-1 in overtime and 4-2 in shootouts.
