Five Hot Facts About The Abbotsford Heat This Week

The Heat hit the road this week for a pair of games versus the Baby Habs (the Hamilton Bulldogs, this Wednesday and Sunday). Sandwiched in between the twin dip with the Dogs, a visit to the Rochester Americans, who are undefeated at home (10-0-1) this season. The Heat are 2-1 versus Hamilton this season (2-1 SO win in Hamilton on October 30th, a 4-1 win over the Bulldogs in Abbotsford on November 17th, and a 2-1 loss to Hamilton in Abby on November 18th). Rochester and the Heat split a pair of games this past weekend, the Heat winning the opener 6-2 on Saturday, December 5th, while the Americans took the back end, a come from behind 2-1 win over Abbotsford on December 6th.

In the month of December, the Abbotsford Heat will play ten games. Eight of those ten games will be versus their North Division rivals. Abbotsford is currently 7-5-0-1 this season versus their own division. Fact: The Heat have beaten every team in their division, with the exception of Grand Rapids.

Former Canuck Jason Jaffray leads the Abbotsford Heat in nearly every offensive category. Jaffray currently has scored 10 goals, 14 assists, 24 points and is a team leading +11. He also has taken 90 shots, second on the team to Mikael Backlund. Jaffray was assigned by the Flames to Abbotsford as one of the last cuts on the Flames roster back on October 10.

Matt Keetley is the Heat nominee for Reebok AHL Player of the Week. In two games this week, Keetley was 2-0, with a 1.00 GAA and a save percentage of.960. Keetley picked up his first shutout of the season, as well as his first victory, in Toronto versus the Marlies in a 3-0 win on Tuesday night. The Medicine Hat, Alberta product followed that performance up with a 6-2 victory over the AHL's best team so far, the Rochester Americans, stopping 22 of 24 shots for his second straight 'W'. Fact: During his rehab assignment in Victoria, Keetley was named the Reebok ECHL Player of the Week, posting 2 shutouts in three starts with the Salmon Kings.

Rookie forward Mikael Backlund leads the first year Heat players with 14 points (7G-7A). Backlund also leads the team in shots on goal with 92. Backlund is 17th in AHL rookie scoring this season. Matt Pelech leads all Heat players in penalty minutes with 97, which places him 6th in the league in that category. Backlund (92) and Jaffray (90) are in the top five in shots on goal in the AHL.
