Peoria, Ill. (March 12, 2004) – Levente Szuper all 26 shots he faced in his second shutout of the season, as the Peoria Rivermen beat the archrival Toledo Storm 2-0 before a crowd of 3,814 on Friday night at the Toledo Sports Arena.

Szuper, who has won five in a row, stopped five chances in the first period, a game-high 11 in the second and 10 in the final session, which included four Toledo power plays, for the blanking. It was Peoria's sixth team shutout of the season.

Peoria (38-16-8, 84 points) extended its season-best winning streak to eight games and has won its last two road games (both in Toledo). The Rivermen remained unbeaten in regulation through 10 regular season meetings (8-0-2) with the Storm with two remaining. The game marked the beginning of seven straight on the road for Peoria. Toledo (21-30-9, 51 points) is winless in its last eight games overall (0-5-3) and dropped to 11-16-4 on home ice.

Szuper's Toledo counterpart, Doug Teskey, turned away 22 of 24 shots in his 18th regulation loss of the season (14-18-6).

Peoria's David Kaczowka and Toledo's Bryce Charpentier squared off at center ice with Kaczowka taking the decision on several strong left hands at 1:34 of the first.

Just 11 seconds after the two pugilists left the ice, the Rivermen took a 1-0 lead. Mike Hoffman held the puck in at the right point in the Toledo zone. Adam Edinger, facing the endboards behind the net, backhanded a pass to Tyler Rennette, who was all alone at the top of the goal crease. Rennette slapped his 26th tally of the season inside the right goal post.

Peoria pushed its lead to 2-0 at 7:49 of the second on the power play. Edinger, at the left face-off circle, flipped the puck to George Halkidis at the left point. Halkidis back-pedaled toward the center point and let a wrist shot go that made its way through traffic in front of the Toledo net and inside the right goal post.

The Rivermen finished the night 1-for-4 on the power play. Toledo was 0-for-7 with the man advantage.

Rivermen defenseman Mike Hoffman and Toledo's Landon Bathe dropped the gloves at 6:39 of the final period but did little more than hugging for 30 seconds.

Tomorrow night – Saturday, March 13 – the Rivermen face off against the archrival Storm in the second of two in a row between the clubs and the 11th of 12 meetings on the year. Game time is 6:30 p.m. CT.
