Goaltender Valley Returns from Worcester (AHL)

Peoria, Ill. (March 12, 2004) – Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Jason Christie of the Peoria Rivermen of the ECHL announced today that sixth-year goaltender Mike Valley has returned from call-up with the team's American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate – the Worcester IceCats.

Valley – a 6-foot-1, 185-pound native of Richmond, British Columbia – posted his second win in his second start for Worcester on March 7, stopping 18 of 20 shots in a 4-2 home win over the Springfield Falcons. With the Rivermen, he has registered a 20-7-6 record during 2003-2004 with a 2.21 goals against average (GAA) and a .917 save percentage; it is the first 20-win campaign of his career. The 27-year-old netminder has also notched three shutouts this season – the eighth, ninth and 10th of his North American regular season career.

The Rivermen open seven straight on the road against the archrival Toledo Storm on Friday, March 12 and Saturday, March 13. Game times are 6:30 p.m. CT at the Toledo Sports Arena. On Sunday, March 14, Peoria moves on to Wheeling, W.Va. to face off against the first place and Brabham Cup Championship-leading Wheeling Nailers, who have won an ECHL season-high 12 games in a row. Game time is 1:00 p.m. CT at WesBanco Arena.
