Peoria, Ill. (November 2, 2004) â Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Jason Christie of the Peoria Rivermen of the ECHL announced today that sixth-year defenseman Chris Bogas has been claimed off waivers from the Dayton Bombers.
Bogas â a 6-foot-1, 205-pound native of Cleveland Heights, Ohio â opened the season by registering one assist in five games for the Bombers before he was waived. Last season, the 27-year-old defenseman competed in 23 games with seven points (3g, 4a) for HC Appiano of the Serie A (Italian Elite League). Selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the sixth round (148th overall) of the 1996 NHL Entry Draft, Bogas spent the majority of the 2001-2002 season with the now-defunct Jackson Bandits, tallying single-season, career-bests in assists (32) and points (36). In his sophomore season, he logged time with the Detroit Vipers (International Hockey League, IHL â 2gp), the Philadelphia Phantoms (AHL â 15gp=1g, 6a-7pts), the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (AHL â 5gp=1a) and the Toledo Storm (43gp=9g, 5a-14pts). Bogas opened his professional career in 1999-2000 with the St. John's Maple Leafs (AHL â 8gp) after enjoying a four-year NCAA Division I hockey career at Michigan State University, collecting 59 points (13g, 46a) in 158 career games.
