Dayton Bombers News Release

Dayton, OH – The Dayton Bombers of the ECHL officially announced that former Ohio State Buckeyes Linebacker CHRIS SPIELMAN will appear at the Nutter Center when the Bombers host the Wheeling Nailers on Friday, November 5th at 7:00 PM.

Spielman, a former two-time All-American at Ohio State and four-time Pro-Bowler in the National Football League, is currently working as the General Manager and Head Coach of the Columbus Destroyers Arena Football League team.

The Detroit Lions selected Spielman with the 29th pick in the 1988 NFL draft, following a stellar collegiate career with the Buckeyes. He became the first player to lead the Lions in tackles seven straight seasons. Spielman also played for the Buffalo Bills and Cleveland Browns.

When his wife, Stephanie, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1999, Chris took a year off from football to be with her and their children. He returned to the NFL in Cleveland the following year, only to suffer a career-ending neck injury.

"Chris Spielman is a warrior," said Bombers President and co-owner COSTA PAPISTA. "We are honored to have him appear during one of our games so he can share is inspirational story with our fans." Spielman will drop the ceremonial first puck, be available for autographs during the game, and deliver his inspirational story following the game.

The Dayton Bombers are the proud affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets and a member of the ECHL - America's Premier "AA" Hockey League. Season ticket packages for the 2004-05 season are available by calling the Bombers' office at 937-775-4747.
