
RiverKings To Highlight Special Olympics On Fan Appreciation Night

Southaven, MS -- Saturday, March 22 the RiverKings host the Corpus Christi Rayz at 7:05pm at the DeSoto Civic Center. During the matchup the RiverKings will highlight Special Olympics as the evening's featured nonprofit.
Special Olympics Mississippi provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for individuals with mental retardation giving this special group of individuals continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
Special Olympics Mississippi Area 16 has approximately 300 athlete participants in four counties: DeSoto, Coahoma, Quitman and Tunica. Area 16 athletes participate in Basketball, Track and Field, Swimming, Golf, Soccer, Softball and Bowling throughout the year.
"Partnering with the RiverKings allows us to let people know about Special Olympics and the programs we offer," said Elisa Goss, Area 16 Director. "The RiverKings is an active sport within our Area, and I find our athletes not only enjoy participating in the sports but watching sporting events. More than anything we want this night to be about the athletes having time together with their families at the RiverKings game."
Special Olympics allows individuals with intellectual disabilities ages 8 and older the ability to participate in year round activities.

Special Olympics Mississippi also takes part in Unified Sports, pairing volunteers with the Special Olympians. Individuals interested in participating, volunteering or learning more about Special Olympics Mississippi should visit www.specialolympicsms.org.
Saturday is RiverKings Fan Appreciation night, and will feature a variety of "extras".
Throughout the game Saturday, as long as supplies last, fans can purchase hot dogs and popcorn for $1.00 each on a Fan Appreciation Special courtesy of the RiverKings and the DeSoto Civic Center. Saturday's game will also be when winners are announced for the Travellenium airline ticket giveaway and RiverKings Gibson guitar giveaways.
All season fans have had the chance to enter into the airline ticket giveaway at the Fan Services Booth. Saturday a winner will be selected from the season's entries and must be present to win. The RiverKings Gibson Guitar is a special edition one of 10 guitars featuring the RiverKings logo which will be won by a lucky season ticket holder. Season Ticket Holders were entered into the guitar giveaway for completing a survey as well as for renewing their tickets for the 2008-2009 RiverKings season. Fans are still able to enter to win the airline tickets at Fridays' game.
