March 19, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Corpus Christi IceRays News Release
Justin Quenneville had four assists, Nick Lindberg had a pair of goals and Jason Tapp made 49 saves to lead the Corpus Christi Rayz past the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 6-2 on Wednesday Night from the Dodge Arena in Hidalgo, Texas. The victory gave the Rayz the season series, finishing 6-5-1 in 12 games vs. their division rivals. The victory also moved the Rayz into a sixth place tie in the Southern Conference with the Amarillo Gorillas. Corpus Christi will end their 2007-2008 season with three two games on Friday and Saturday Night in Mississippi to face the RiverKings. The Rayz would like to thank all of their great fans and sponsors for their support during their 10th Anniversary season and over the last decade. For more Rayz information, please call the Rayz at 361.814.PUCK. The Killer Bees began the scoring with a Josh Garbutt power play goal at 8:43 when his slapshot from the right point chimed off the inside of the left post and into the net to give the Bees a 1-0 lead. The Rayz answered on a power play of their own when Geno Parrish scored on a power play with a slapshot from the left point at 17:41 for his 13th of the year. The Bees outshot the Rayz 18-15 in the first period and the clubs went to the locker room tied at one after the frame.
The Rayz took control of the game in the middle frame with three goals. Nick Lindberg gave the Rayz their first lead at 10:54 after a beautiful pass from Jon Jankus behind the net fooled Bees netminder David Lemanowicz and vacated the right post. Shortly after that the Rayz took a 3-1 lead when Jay Latulippe one-timed a Justin Quenneville pass from the top of the left circle into the net at 13:21. The Bees pulled within one on a power play after Dennis Maxwell scored on a slapshot at 17:43. But just 21 seconds later Adam Powell's shot from the left circle trickled through Lemanowicz and into the net to make the score 4-2 and cap the second period scoring.
The Rayz added early third period goals from Derek Smith at 3:36 and a second goal from Lindberg at 5:15 that came shorthanded and ended the scoring summary.
The Rayz and the Bees each had 51 shots. Corpus Christi went 1 for 5 on the power play and Rio Grande Valley went 2 for 4. Jason Tapp earned the win for the Rayz, improving to 22-27-7, and made 49 saves on 51 shots. David Lemanowicz made 45 saves on 51 shots, suffering the loss and falling to 7-24-4.
