Hounds Hold Off Eagles 3-2

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO - The Youngstown SteelHounds defeated the Colorado Eagles 3-2 on Wednesday night. The Hounds (37-20-5, 79 points) has set a new franchise record for most points in a season and are closer to clinching a playoff spot. If the Rocky Mountain Rage fall to the Arizona Sundogs tonight (Face-off at 10:05 EST) then the Hounds will clinch their second straight playoff birth.

In the first period Colorado out shot the Hounds 16-5 and Ed McGrane scored at 10:31 of the first period to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead after one period. Colorado out shot the Hounds 32-26 for the game.

In the second period Eric Main's shot went off of Eagles defenseman Brad Williamson's stick and past Sebastien Laplante at 10:02 to tie the game at one after two periods.

In the third period Joel Irving scored on the power play at 13:11 for his 25th goal of the season to put the Hounds up 2-1. The Hounds were 1-5 on the power play while the Eagles were 0-6. Ryan Bennett tipped an Eric Main shot past Laplante 14 seconds later to put the Hounds up 3-1. Ed McGrande added his second of the night with 30.7 seconds left to make it 3-2 game but Andy Franck made 30 saves on 32 shots to preserve the win for the Hounds. Franck is 7-0-1 in his last eight starts and is 24-10-4 on the season.

The Hounds will be appearing at Home Depot (6100 Mahoning Avenue in Austintown) on Thursday afternoon from 4:00-7:00. Fans can take pictures and get items autographs as they rally the Hounds to the playoffs.
