Fort Worth Brahmas News Release

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (March 19)- It has been a long time coming for Brahmas fans, but the Texas Brahmas clinched a playoff berth Wednesday evening with a 5-2 win over the Wichita Thunder. The last time the Brahmas were in the post season was in 2001-02.

Texas was able to jump to the second seed in the North with the help of a Colorado loss and the Brahmas unstoppable offense. Forward Mark Carragher was able to start things in the first period with his 7th goal of the season from Chris Thompson and Grant Jacobsen. The Thunder evened things out with a goal on goaltender David Cacciola from Peter Kennedy.

The Brahmas owned the second period scoring three goals on Thunder netminder Bill Zaniboni. Jacobsen and Scott Sheppard each scored just three minutes from each other and Tyler Skworchinski scored a powerplay goal at the 14:17 mark. Jacobsen, Justin Kinnunen, Blair Manning and Scott Sheppard collected two points in the second period.

Thunder defenseman Daniel Tetrault scored in the final period, but it was not enough to end Texas' current six game winning streak. Brahmas gritty forward Greg McConnell finished the Thunder off with an empty net goal with eight seconds remaining in the game. Cacciola earned his seventh consecutive victory and gave the Brahmas their 40th win of the season, a feat not touched since the 2001-02 season.

The Brahmas will now travel to Bossier-Shreveport for a final contest against the Mudbugs in the regular season this Friday. The regular season will wrap up in Austin against the Ice Bats Saturday. Brahmas playoff tickets are now on sale and can be purchased at the Brahmas Box Office at the NYTEX Sports Centre or at www.brahmas.com. For more information please call (817) 336-4423.
