Amarillo's David Nimmo Wins CHL Rookie of the Year

The Central Hockey League (CHL) announced today that Amarillo Gorillas forward David Nimmo has been selected the recipient of the 2007-08 Central Hockey League Rookie of the Year award following balloting among CHL head coaches, communication's departments and selected media members in each market.

The former University of Alabama-Huntsville star received nearly 70% of the vote with Odessa's goaltender Alexandre Vincent finishing second. Nimmo, 25, leads all first year players and is tied for seventh overall with 82 points (40-42=82). His 40 goals are third in the league. After a slow first two months of the season, the St. Albert, Alberta native caught fire recording 70 of his 82 points after December 1st. Nimmo recorded eight multiple goal games this season and 11 games with three points or more. His best game of the season came on February 16th when he had a career high six points (three goals, three assists) in a 7-2 win versus New Mexico.

Other accolades received by Nimmo this season include being selected to the Southern Conference all-star team in the 2008 CHL All-Star Game in Broomfield, Colorado and being named the Sher-Wood CHL Player of the Month for December when he scored 10 goals with 10 assists.

The remaining CHL Awards will be announced throughout the week including later today (Wednesday, March 19th) when the CHL Coach of the Year is announced. The CHL Most Valuable Player recipient will be announced on Monday, March 24th.
