Scott Muscutt Named CHL Coach Of The Year

March 19, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release

The Central Hockey League (CHL) announced today that Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs Head Coach Scott Muscutt has been selected the recipient of the 2007-08 Central Hockey League Coach of the Year award following balloting among all CHL Head Coaches. The award is ‘presented annually to the Central Hockey League coach adjudged to have contributed most to his team's success.' Rocky Mountain's Tracy Egeland finished second in the voting.

Muscutt and the Mudbugs are fresh off clinching their second consecutive Governors' Cup (regular season championship). In his eighth season as the Mudbugs head coach, Muscutt has moved into fourth place on the CHL all-time wins list with 316 wins (three away from Bill MacDonald for third place). His all-time record entering the season was 274-132-45 and this year his team has gone 42-13-6. The Mudbugs rebounded from a tough start (0-5-1) by winning 33 of 38 games between November 3rd and February 8th. The Mudbugs have been one of the top defensive teams in the CHL all season long setting numerous records including 17 team shutouts and they are on pace to set the CHL record for the lowest single-season goals against average for a team (1.90).

After a five-year college career playing for the University of New Brunswick, Muscutt played three seasons with the Mudbugs scoring 17 goals with 49 assists and was named the 2000 CHL Man of the Year.

The remaining CHL Awards will be announced throughout the week with the CHL Most Valuable Player recipient announced on Monday, March 24th.
