RiverKings Throttle Rage for Second Straight Win
November 7, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Mississippi RiverKings News Release
(Southaven, MS) -- The Mississippi RiverKings won their second straight game, knocking down the Rocky Mountain Rage 5-2 in Central Hockey League action at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven on Friday, November 7th.
The win evened the RiverKings' record for the season to 4-4-0.
Mississippi took a 3-0 lead in the first period on goals from Matt Pierce, Brad Bonello, and Matt Summers' first goal of the season nearly 16 minutes into the first period. Summers' goal would eventually become the game-winning tally for the RiverKings.
There was no scoring in the second period, until Bobby Chaumont of the RiverKings put a rebound into the net for his third goal (and first power play goal) of the season with just under seven seconds left in the period for a 4-0 RiverKings' lead after forty minutes.
Rocky Mountain outscored the RiverKings in the third period, but it was too little, too late for the Rage, who fell to 1-7-0 with the loss. Brad Bonello's second goal of the night was the only RiverKings' marker in the final frame.
For the night, Mississippi outshot the Rage 32-27. Winning goaltender Kevin Beech (4-3-0) made 25 saves in the contest. Two of the five Mississippi goals came on the power play (2-for-9).
The RiverKings play at Wichita on Saturday night, November 8th, beginning at 7:05 PM. They'll host Oklahoma City for a pair of games on November 14th and 15th at the DCC. Both games start at 7:05 PM.
