
Scorpions Win Overtime Thriller

[WICHITA, Kan.]-Aaron MacInnis gave the Scorpions an improbable 6-5 overtime victory in Wichita Friday night. New Mexico forced overtime when Craig Macdonald scored as time expired.
It was a fast paced first period where the teams combined for only one goal and one penalty. Chris Greene got the home team on the board with his second goal of the season, on a feed from Jason Duda.
New Mexico tied it up as Seth Leonard ripped a shot past Krister Toews shoulder tying the game at one. The Thunder fought back as Troy Ofukany picked up a rebound and deposited the puck into an open net.
The final two minutes of the second period proved to be wild. Leonard tipped in his second goal of the game. Adam Blanchette threw the puck from the blue line towards the net where Leonard knocked it out of midair. On the next shift Jamie Herrington led a two-on-one into the zone. His shot was saved but Sam Bowles followed the play and pushed the rebound home.
The teams combined for five goals in the third period. Bryan Nathe brought the game back to even with a power play goal at the 59 second mark. Chris Robertson then gave the Scorps back the lead with a shorthanded goal two minutes later.
Wichita mounted their come back retying the game on Scott Rozendale's third goal of the season. Late in the third period, Greg Cassista tied the game up prior to the Scorps amazing comeback.
On Saturday the Scorps will visit Oklahoma City for the first time in over four years. The Scorpions finish up the trip with a Tuesday night game in Arizona starting at 7:05 p.m. All games can heard on 610 The Sports Animal or seen for free on the CHL Network.
New Mexico returns home on Friday, November 14th to celebrate Stanley's 7th birthday. Come out for a night of all your favorite area mascots when the Scorpions host Rocky Mountain starting at 7:15 p.m.
