Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

BOSSIER CITY, LA - A big second period led the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs to a 3-1 victory over the Tulsa Oilers on Friday night at CenturyTel Center. The Mudbugs are now 6-1 on the season after scoring three second period goals to beat Tulsa for the second consecutive game.

J.J. Martin, Tyrel Lucas and Dave Pszenyczny had two points each and Ryan Mior made 28 saves to earn his fourth victory of the season as Bossier-Shreveport moved to 3-1 at home this year.

Tulsa got on the board first in this one when Chris Kovalcik picked up the rebound of a Michel Beausoleil shot and scored his second goal of the season to put the Oilers on top 1-0 after one period.

The Mudbugs took control of the game in the second period, starting with Travis Clayton's fourth goal of the year on the powerplay. Pszenyczny's nice pass helped set up the goal to tie the game at one. The Bugs took the lead less than two minutes later when Martin put in the rebound of a Pszenyczny shot for the first goal of his professional career. Lucas capped off the scoring in the period with a great shot after Martin set him up in the circle for his fourth goal of the season. Bossier-Shreveport outshot Tulsa 25-9 in the second period and led 3-1 after forty minutes.

The Bugs were able to hold the lead in the third period despite a late push by the Oilers. Penalties to Clayton and Todd Paul put the Mudbugs down two men late in the period and gave Tulsa a 6-on-3 advantage after they pulled goaltender Kevin St. Pierre. Bossier-Shreveport killed off the penalties though and held on to win 3-1.

Mior made numerous great saves to advance his record to 4-1 on the season. St. Pierre stopped 41 Mudbugs shots in the losing effort, falling to 1-3-1 on the season. The Bugs outshot Tulsa 44-29 for the game.
