Mississippi RiverKings News Release
(North Richland Hills, TX) --- The Mississippi RiverKings swept the Texas Brahmas with a 5-2 victory in the Brahmas home opener Saturday night in Texas. The victory gave the RiverKings a two-game winning streak, after Friday's 3-2 shootout victory in Southaven.
Mississippi opened the game with a 2-0 lead on a pair of power play goals from Ryan Held, at 6:59 of the first period and the second coming at 8:24 of the first.
However, Texas answered with goals from Kevin McLeod, an even strength goal at 10:27 and a full-strength tally from Grant Jacobsen at 15:58 for a 2-2 tie after one period.
Mississippi took a 3-2 lead in the second period on a power play goal from Ryan Campbell at 10:43 and added to the margin in the third period on another power play tally, this time from Bobby Chaumont at 6:13 of the third period for a 4-2 RiverKings lead.
McLeod scored another goal in the third period to cut the margin to 4-3, but Derek Landmesser finished the night with an empty-net goal for the final 5-3 count.
Mississippi improves to 3-2-0 with the win and plays at home against Wichita Sunday afternoon at 3:05 PM. Texas falls to 1-2-1 with the loss.
The RiverKings won in large part to special teams play, scoring four goals in 12 chances and stopping all seven Texas opportunities. The Brahmas out shot the RiverKings by a 32-27 margin.
Ray Jean (3-1-0) picked up the victory in net for the RiverKings, while Brett Jaeger took the loss for Texas, as his record is now 1-2-0.
