Bucks Lose Home Opener In OT 5-4

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League fell to the Allen Americans 5-4 in overtime in their home opener Saturday night, in front of 5,668 fans at the Laredo Entertainment Center. The Bucks fall to 2-1-1 (five points), while the Americans improve to 4-0 (eight points).

Chris Kaufman scored from the right circle just 1:31 into overtime to give the Americans the victory. The Bucks were outshot in overtime 3-0.

Maxime Lincourt picked up four points (1-3=4) to lead the Bucks offensively.

The Bucks jumped out in front of the Americans as they took a 1-0 lead 11:59 into the first period. Lance Monych took a cross ice feed from Evan Schwabe on a two-on-one break and jammed in a shot from the left circle. The goal was Monych's fourth of the year, with Schwabe and Lincourt picking up the assists.

Laredo would make it 2-0 when they struck on the power-play 15:21 when Igor Agarunov hammered home a rebound on the right side of the crease. The strike was Agarunov's first of the year, with Mike Looby and Lincourt picking up assists.

Allen would storm right back and tie the game at 2-2, with Bill Loupee scoring on the power-play (18:23) and Bruce Graham striking on a wrap around just 25 seconds later.

Each team put up 14 shots in the first period.

The Bucks took a 3-2 lead 3:47 into the second period when Jeff Bes knocked in a rebound right in front of the net. It was Bes' second goal of the year, with Lincourt and Darryl Smith picking up assists.

Allen would come back and score two straight goals to take a 4-3 lead after 40 minutes. Graham would score his second of the night 12:27 into the period to tie the game at 3-3, then Nathan ONabigon would put the Americans up 4-3 16:42 into the third.

The Bucks outshot the Americans 7-6 in the middle period.

Lincourt tied the game at 4-4 just 1:52 into the third period when he scored off of a slap shot from the point. The tally was Lincourt's first of the season, with Looby and Schwabe picking up the assists.

With the game tied at 4-4 with 1:28 left in the third the Bucks failed to score on a 1:11 five-on-three power-play.

Chris Whitley picked up the win for Allen as he set aside 28 of 32 shots, while J.P Levassuer was stuck with the loss as he stopped 25 of 30 shots.

Laredo outshot Allen 32-30 in the contest.
