Mississippi RiverKings News Release

SOUTHAVEN --- Memphis RiverKings Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin McClelland announced today that the Central Hockey League team has signed forward Ryan Olynyk. Olynyk will be in uniform and play tonight when the RiverKings host the Wichita Thunder at 7:05.

Olynyk takes the spot on the RiverKings' roster that was left open when the team place forward Sheldon Wenzel on the 45-day IR. Wenzel suffered an injury to his knee in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Rocky Mountain Rage.

Olynyk is in his second pro season. He played his rookie season of 2003-04 with the Thunder. In 57 games, the Saskatoon, SASK native scored a goal, added five assists to go with 231 penalty minutes and 31 major penalties.

The 6-foot-1, 190 pound Olynyk played collegiate hockey at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology the past two seasons, playing in 43 games, scoring six goals, assisting on eight and amassing 151 PIM.

He started this season with the Quad City Mallards of the United Hockey League and played in six games. He was waived on Wednesday.

The RiverKings enter tonight's game as the number two ranked team in this week's CHL Coaches Poll Top 10 that was released today. The RiverKings, at 5-1-2 on the season, moved up from the seventh place position last week. Oklahoma City is the number one team in the poll.
