CHL Expansion Clubs Open New Arenas Friday Night
November 9, 2006 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release
The Central Hockey League's two 2006-2007 expansion teams will get their first opportunity to play in front of their home fans Friday night, as both the Arizona Sundogs and Rocky Mountain Rage open up brand new facilities. The Sundogs, based out of Prescott Valley, will host the Youngstown SteelHounds at the Tim's Toyota Center, while the Broomfield, Colorado based Rage will entertain the Tulsa Oilers at the Broomfield Event Center. Both facilities are considered state of the art arenas with luxury suites and all the latest technological advances.
Tim's Toyota Center seats approximately 5,100 for ice hockey, and will be a major component of a 40-acre retail and entertainment district creating a new downtown
Prescott Valley. The $36,000,000 facility features 24 luxury suites and 500 club seats. "We share Northern Arizona's growing enthusiasm for both Arizona Sundogs Professional Hockey and our brand new facility', said Hayne Ellis, Team President and Managing Director. "The combined efforts of a great many people have made this team and this venue possible, and we plan to thank them by delivering an outstanding product not only on Opening Night, but throughout the entire season."
The $45,000,000 Broomfield Event Center houses 26 luxury suites and 900 club seats among the 6,000 seat hockey capacity, and will also serve as home to the NBDL's Colorado 14'ers. The 180,000-square-foot events center is part of Wiens Frew Management Group's 206-acre, mixed-use Arista project, including apartments and businesses. "We are extremely pleased to be able to unveil both our team and our new facility to Colorado hockey fans on Friday night," said Event Center and Rage General Manager Trey Medlock. "The process of building not only a team but a facility has been a challenging but highly rewarding experience, and we anticipate great success as we begin our home playing schedule."
The New Mexico Scorpions have already opened the first of the CHL's three new facilities this season, the 6,000 seat Santa Ana Star Center, on October 27th in Rio Rancho, NM.
The CHL is currently celebrating its 15th season of play this year, and has led all of 'AA' professional hockey in average attendance for the past five consecutive seasons of play. Global Entertainment Corporation (AMEX: GEE) is the parent company of WPHL, Inc., operators of the Central Hockey League, and one of six subsidiaries of Global Entertainment, an integrated events and entertainment company focused on mid-size communities, that is engaged in sports management, arena and related real estate development, facility and venue management and marketing, venue ticketing and brand licensing.
