Mississippi RiverKings News Release

SOUTHAVEN, MS --- The Mississippi RiverKings held off a third-period comeback by Bossier-Shreveport and defeated the Mudbugs 4-3 in a Central Hockey League contest Friday, November 5th at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven. The RiverKings moved to 3-4-0 on the season with the victory, while the win stopped the Mudbugs' (7-3-0) four-game winning streak and was their first loss in five road games.

Derek Landmesser scored the game-winning goal to seal the win with just over four minutes remaining in the contest. The goal stopped the comeback attempt by the Mudbugs, who had tied the contest with two goals in the first half of the third period.

Matt Boyd opened the scoring for the RiverKings with an unassisted goal over seven minutes into the contest, but Bossier-Shreveport tied the game on a power play goal from Travis Clayton with three and a half minutes left in the frame.

Mississippi took control in the second period with a power play goal from Chris Richards and a goal from Louis Dumont. Richards' tally at 7:19 of the period was his third of the year (all on the power play) and Dumont added his second of the year with just inside three minutes left in the middle period.

Penalties started creeping up on the RiverKings, however, as Bossier-Shreveport scored twice in the final period on the power play to knot up the game. Joe Blaznek scored at 6:26 and Clayton's second goal of the night at 10:02 was his fifth of the year and tied the game at 3-3.

That's when Landmesser's heroics won the day and the game for the RiverKings, as his point shot from the right side got through everyone, including goaltender John DeCaro, for his second goal of the year and first game-winner of the season. Mississippi held off a furious empty-net rally by the Mudbugs to claim the victory.

The RiverKings were 1-for-3 on the power play, while all three Bossier-Shreverport goals came with the man advantage in ten tries. Mississippi out shot the Mudbugs 27-25.

Larry Sterling was the winning goaltender with a 22-save performance for the RiverKings, while DeCaro in his second appearance of the year (1-1-0) with 23 saves credited to him.
