Arizona Sundogs News Release
PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - The Arizona Sundogs dropped their fourth straight contest Friday night, falling 4-2 to the Wichita Thunder at Intrust Bank Arena in the first of a season-long eight-game road trip.
Getting his fourth start of the season, Doug Groenestege turned aside 33 shots in his first career loss to Wichita. The netminder carried a 12-0-0 all-time mark into the contest before Friday's setback.
The two teams shared a 1-1 tie after 40 minutes of play before Wichita tallied three times in the final frame en route to its fourth straight win after starting the season 0-4-0.
Tyler Butler extended his scoring streak to five games with 7:54 to play in the contest, sending a slap shot high blocker side past Marc-Antoine Gelinas to pull Arizona back to within one late in the contest.
Kory Scoran regained a one-goal lead for Wichita with his team on a two-man advantage midway through the third period, connecting with Jesse Bennefield and Andrew Martens at the 9:22 mark.
Lance Galbraith stretched the lead to two on a wrap-around effort less than two minutes later, scoring the eventual game winner with less than 10 minutes remaining in the game.
Chris Falloon pushed the score to 4-2 with 3:17 to play, tapping the puck across the goal line from the far post after a failed clearing attempt by Arizona.
A.J. Gale opened scoring in the contest, redirecting a Bennefield centering feed past Groenestege from the slot 7:25 into the opening period.
First-year forward Jason Williams picked up his rookie leading fifth goal and eighth point of the season 7:42 into the second period, skating along the near boards and sending an effort blocker side past Gelinas to even the score at one. Returning forward Kyle Hood recorded his first point on the play since re-joining the Sundogs along with Groenestege.
Joey Sides collected an assist in his return to action since being placed on 10-day injured reserve on October 23.
Both clubs finished 1-for-7 with the man advantage Friday night. Wichita outshot Arizona, 37-27.
The Sundogs continue their season-long eight-game road trip tomorrow against the Texas Brahmas at 5:30pm (Arizona time). Listen to the game live online at www.cattlecountryradio.com or on KDDL âCattle Country' 94.3FM, the Official Radio Home of Arizona Sundogs Hockey.
