Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
SOUTHAVEN, MS - Derek Landmesser broke a 3-3 tie with only 4:02 remaining to give the Mississippi RiverKings a 4-3 victory over the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs Friday night at the DeSoto Civic Center. The Mudbugs rallied from 3-1 down to tie the game in the third, but suffered their third loss of the season to fall to 7-3-0 while Mississippi improved to 3-4-0.
Travis Clayton scored twice and added an assist as all three Mudbugs goals in the game came on the powerplay, which finished 3 for 10. Joe Blaznek also scored and added an assist and Jamie Milam contributed two assists as well in the losing cause.
Mississippi started the scoring at 7:21 of the first period when Matt Boyd found the back of the net with a rebound opportunity in front of John DeCaro. After their first powerplay was unsuccessful, the âBugs converted their second chance at 16:21 to tie the game at one. After Simon Mangos' long wrist shot was knocked down in front of the net, Travis Clayton picked up the loose puck and backhanded it past Larry Sterling to tie the score after 20 minutes.
The RiverKings tallied twice in the second period to take the lead, starting with a Chris Richards powerplay goal on a rebound just after a Mississippi 5-on-3 had expired. Later in the period Louis Dumont took a pass from Boyd and beat John DeCaro during a 2-on-1 break to put the RiverKings ahead 3-1 going into the third period.
The âBugs used the powerplay to start their third-period rally, scoring two 5-on-3 goals in a four minute span after Dumont received a five-minute major for butt-ending and the âKings were called for two additional penalties. Blaznek ripped a long slapshot past Sterling to get the Mudbugs back within one and then Clayton scored from the left circle to knot the score at three. Later in the period however, DeCaro kicked out Matt Miller's shot only to see it end up on the stick of Landmesser, who shot the puck through traffic and into net for the game-winner.
John DeCaro made 23 saves but suffered his first loss of the season, while Larry Sterling improved to 2-2 with 22 stops. Mississippi finished 1 for 3 on the powerplay and outshot Bossier-Shreveport 27-25.
The Mudbugs will now return home to face the Allen Americans on "Autism Awareness Night" tomorrow at 7:05 pm at the CenturyTel Center. Season tickets, mini-plans and group tickets are on sale now at the team office, so call 752-BUGS or visit www.mudbugshockey.com for more information.
