Riverkings End Eagles' Streak

Windsor, CO - The Colorado Eagles of the Central Hockey League (CHL) suffered a disappointing loss in the presence of a sold out, 5,211, fans at the Budweiser Events Center against the Memphis River Kings, 6-4. The Colorado Eagles have sold out every home game of their inaugural 2003-04 season. The RiverKings are now 14-5-0 and have 28 points. Memphis is now on a five game road winning streak, breaking the Eagles six game winning streak. Eagles center Riley Nelson and Brad Patterson along with left wingers Karlis Zirnis and Ryan Tobler each netted a goal in the game, and all but Zirnis tallied an assist. Left winger Mike McGhan and right winger Greg Pankewicz each had 2 assists on the night, and defenseman Brent Thompson also tallied an assist. The Eagles are now 12-5-1 on the season.

The Eagles struck early in the first period when center Brad Patterson netted the first goal of the game (1:17) from defenseman Brent Thompson and left winger Mike MGhan. The RiverKings answered back thirty four seconds later (1:51) when defenseman Jeremy Goetzinger scored from right winger Brent Ozarowski. Memphis took advantage of a power play 13:51 into the period when forward Brian Tucker netted a goal from defenseman Derek Landmesser and center Jay Neal. The period ended with a 2-1 RiverKings lead.

The RiverKings assault accelerated in the second period. Only forty seven seconds into the period the RiverKings defeseman David Turon scored from Neal and right winger Brad Mueller. Memphis' rampage continued when defenseman Stephen Margeson charged Eagles netminder Ryan Bach and netted a goal from foward Jeremy Cornish and Ozarowski. The RiverKings struck one more time before the period ended (14:31) when left winger Jonathan Gagnon scored from Tucker. The period ended with a 5-2 Memphis lead.

The Eagles began the third period eager to score, and that's exactly what left winger Karlis Zirnis did only eighteen seconds into the period when he scored from McGhan and Patterson. The RiverKings anwered when Tucket netted his second goal of the night on a power play from Landmesser and Gagnon. Colorado answered back on a power play 9:04 into the period when left winger Ryan Tobler netted a magnificent pass from right winger Greg Pankewicz and center Riley Nelson. Still fighting, the Eagles scored again (11:03) when Nelson netted a goal from Pankewicz and Tobler. Despite the efforts of the Eagles top line, the game ended with a disapointing 6-4 Memphis victory.

Eagles goaltender Ryan Bach saved 14 of 20 shots on goal. The Eagles out-shot the Memphis RiverKings 39 to 20. The Colorado Eagles are now 12-5-1 on the season with 25 points. The Eagles are first in the Northwest Division and are second in the league overall with the Laredo Bucks.

NEXT FOR THE EAGLES

The Eagles will face off against the Memphis River Kings in a rematch Friday, November 28 at 7:05 (MST) at the Budweiser Events Center. The Eagles will then take on the New Mexico Scorpions (at home) Wednesday, December 3 at 7:05 p.m. (MST). The team will then leave for a four game road trip.
