Mudbugs to Honor Louisiana Purchase Bicentennial

BOSSIER CITY, LA â On Friday November 28th, the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs of the Central Hockey League will honor one of the most significant moments in American history with special jerseys in their game against the Fort Worth Brahmas at 7:05 p.m. at the CenturyTel Center. For the game, the Mudbugs will wear "Louisiana Purchase Bicentennial Jerseys" to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the historical event.
The jerseys, sponsored by Freedom Wireless, will feature the Mudbugs logo combined with the Louisiana Purchase emblem and a special patch of the United States with the Purchase territory highlighted. They will be auctioned off to fans immediately following the game against the Brahmas.
"The Mudbugs organization is proud to take part in the celebration of this very important event in American history," said Mudbugs owner John Madden, a native of Minden, LA. "The state of Louisiana and several others have held events to honor the bicentennial of the Louisiana Purchase and I'm glad we can do the same. The jerseys look fantastic and I think our fans will really enjoy seeing them."
The Louisiana Purchase has been called "the most significant real estate transaction in the history of civilization." In April of 1803, Thomas Jefferson negotiated the United States' purchase of Louisiana from France and the entire purchase territory covered over 800,000 square miles and fifteen current states. The $15 million dollar land stretched from the Mississippi River to the Rocky Mountains and doubled the size of the United States.
Friday's game will be the fourth straight home game for the Mudbugs and third of the year against their Northeast Division rivals, the Fort Worth Brahmas.
