Corpus Christi IceRays News Release

Corpus Christi, TX - On the eve of Thanksgiving, fans of the Corpus Christi Rayz had much to be thankful for. The largest crowd of the season saw the Rayz defeat the Fort Worth Brahmas 4-3 Wednesday night at the Memorial Coliseum. 3,453 fans picked a great day to show up as the Rayz played a complete hockey game filled with goals, scoring chances, huge hits and fights. More importantly, for the Rayz faithful it was a game that saw the Rayz earn two points, as they won for the third time in their last four games.

The Rayz (8-7-2) got on the board early when Mike Tilson blistered a slapshot from the blue line past Brahmas goaltender Tyler Nilsson (32 shots, 28 saves) for his fourth power play goal of the season. The Rayz would make it 2-0 when rookie Ed McGrane created a turnover and deked Nilsson on a shorthanded breakaway for hit 12th goal of the season. McGrane's goal was the Rayz first shorthanded goal this year. The Brahmas (2-12-3) came back with a late goal as Taras Foremsky scored with 40 seconds left in the period with a low shot from just inside the blue line that sailed low and past Brent Belecki (32 shots, 29 saves).

The Rayz came back, however, early in the second period to recapture the momentum. Ed McGrane converted a beautiful pass form Nick Udovicic on a three on one to give the Rayz their two goal lead once again. Less than two minutes later, Jonathan St. Louis scored for his third consecutive game to make the score 4-1. The Rayz would hold that lead for the rest of the game, in spite of the Brahmas efforts to come back. Forth Worth crawled within one goal after goals from Adam Davis in the second and Foremsky's second goal of the game in the third.

They would get no closer, however as Belecki made timely saves to keep the Rayz ahead of Fort Worth. Early in the first period, Rayz forward Brad Wingfield was given a five-minute major penalty for charging and a game misconduct after a collision with the Brahmas netminder. Rayz captain Ken Richardson was assessed the same penalty in the second period after he leveled Brahmas captain Chad Grills against the boards. Grills remained down for several minutes and did not return to the game.

Notes: Ed McGrane has now scored a goal in six of his last seven games and is the first Rayz player to hit 20 points this season...Cosmo Dupaul had two assists and now has five points in four games with the Rayz this year...The Rayz are 3-1 under interim Head Coach Pat Dunn...The Brahmas score more than two goals for the first time in five games...Fort Worth played game three of a four game road trip...The Rayz went 1-6 on the power play...The Brahmas went 0-7 on the power play.
