San Angelo Saints News Release
SAN ANGELO â The San Angelo Saints today announced that the team has waived forward Chris Peach and signed forward Luke Earl to take his place on the roster as the team prepares for a pair of home games this weekend.
Earl comes to the Saints after spending last season split between Germany and the East Coast Hockey League. He put up impressive numbers in Germany, notching 22 goals and 26 assists in 54 games. He played a total of 7 games at the end of the season with the ECHL's Charlotte Checkers and Greenville Grrrowl, scoring 1 goal. The 24-year old Earl also had a brief 3-game stint with the CHL's Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs in 2001-02 after finishing his college career at Yale University where he was the team captain.
"Being the captain at a place like Yale University shows that Luke is a team leader," said Saints head coach Ray Edwards. "He also put up good numbers at Yale and in Germany and we hope he will bring that combination of leadership and scoring to the Saints."
Peach leaves the Saints after spending one full season and parts of two others in San Angelo. In 2001-02 he scored 49 points in 38 games for San Angelo and was then named the Saints' MVP last season after leading the team in scoring with 67 points in 64 games. This season Peach had posted 3 goals and 9 assists in 18 games with the Saints.
"It was tough to let Chris go," said Saints head coach Ray Edwards. "We appreciate what he has meant to the team and the fans, and we hope that he has success in continuing his hockey career. But, we felt this was a move the organization had to make."
In other player news, forwards Dustin Hunter and Scott Mahar remain on injured reserve. Defenseman John Jarram will return to action this weekend after missing last Saturday's game with a minor injury and defenseman Derek Booth has returned to the team from his emergency leave that saw him miss two games last weekend. One more player move will need to be made before this weekend's games.
The Saints take on the Laredo Bucks this Friday at the San Angelo Coliseum. Friday is also Family & Military Appreciation Night with special ticket prices for family groups and fans with military ID cards. There will be a live auction after Friday's game for the Saints special Patriotic Jerseys. On Saturday the Saints host the division rival Lubbock Cotton Kings. Both of this weekend's games start at 7:05 p.m.
