Mississippi RiverKings News Release

LOVELAND - The two-time defending CHL champion Memphis RiverKings, struggling of late to put the puck in the back of the net, got their offense going in a big way Wednesday night, defeating the Colorado Eagles 6-4 at the Budweiser Events Center before 5,211 fans.

RiverKings winger Jonathan Gagnon scored the game-winning goal on a breakaway in the second period, thanks to an on-target pass by fellow forward Brian Tucker. The goal at the time gave the RiverKings a 5-1 lead.

The Eagles got the scoring started early, as forward Brad Patterson fired one past RiverKings goaltender Jean-Francois Racine less than two minutes into the contest.

But the RiverKings would answer back quickly, as defenseman Jeremy Goetzinger scored his first goal of the season on a well-placed slapshot from the blue line. Goetzinger's goal would be followed later in the period by Tucker's first goal of the contest, giving the RiverKings a 2-1 lead heading into the intermission.

The second period was all RiverKings, as Memphis garnered goals from defensemen David Turon and Stephen Margeson, as well as Gagnon's game winner.

With the RiverKings leading comfortably 5-1, the Eagles attempted a comeback, scoring three goals in quick succession. But Tucker's second goal pushed the RiverKings total to six on the day, which proved to be more than enough.

The win was Memphis's second in a row, and moved their record to 14-4-0 on the campaign. Colorado dropped to 12-5-1. Both teams still lead the Northeast and Northwest divisions, respectively.

The RiverKings will be back in action this Friday night at 8:05 CST as they take on the Eagles in a rematch of tonight's game.
