Mississippi RiverKings News Release

The Mississippi RiverKings scored four times in the second period and then hung on for dear life to defeat the Youngstown SteelHounds tonight 4-3 at the DeSoto Civic Center.

With the victory, the RiverKings ended the SteelHounds' 12-game unbeaten streak to start the season. Remarkably, the SteelHounds have yet to play a game at home this year.

After Steve Birnstill's goal midway through the first period gave the SteelHounds a 1-0 lead, the RiverKings scored four goals in a period for the first time this season. Ryan Kindret scored at 7:11, Jason Lawmaster scored on the power play at 8:31, Rick Kozak scored on the power play at 10:54, and Aaron Davis scored at 14:42 to make it a 4-1 game in short order.

Still, the SteelHounds made the RiverKings sweat it out at the end. Jeff Alcombrack scored on the power play with 11:32 remaining to make it close again, and then Erik Johnson scored with 2:09 left to make it a one-goal game. Then with 1:01 on the clock, Chad Woollard took a hooking penalty that gave the SteelHounds a golden opportunity to tie the game. Nevertheless, the RiverKings withstood the final blast of fury from the SteelHounds' storm and improved to 8-3.

Sebastien Centomo made 26 saves for the RiverKings and improved to 5-2 on the season. Andy Franck made 17 stops for the SteelHounds, who fell overall to 11-1-1.

The RiverKings host the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs tomorrow at 7:05 p.m.
