Rocky Mountain Rage News Release

Broomfield, Colo. - In a marquee Central Hockey League clash, the Northwest Division leading Rocky Mountain Rage defeated the Southeast Division leading Laredo Bucks 4-1 tonight at the Broomfield Event Center. Rage goaltender Scott Reid led the team with 27 saves and all Rage goals were scored by all different players.

The Rage improved to 8-1-1 (17 points) for first place in the Northwest Division and third place overall. The team remains unbeaten at home in regulation. The Laredo Bucks fell to 11-2-0 (22 points) for first place in the Southeast Division and second place overall.

The first period started and ended as a defensive battle on both ends of the ice. Both goaltenders put on a show keeping the puck out of the back of the net.

The period was highlighted by Rocky Mountain Rage goaltender Scott Reid stopping back-to-back scoring chances by Laredo's Matt Summers and Andrew Desjardins around the 10 minute mark. Simon Watson tried to continue his scoring streak two minutes later with arguably Rocky Mountain's best scoring chance of the period on a wide open net, but was denied by the left post. Nathan Rosychuk tried to complete what Watson could not two minutes later in an almost identical play, but was stopped by Laredo goaltender Dustin Traylen. The Bucks outshot the Rage 11-5 by the conclusion of the period.

The defensive battle continued early in the second period, but the scoreless streak was finally broken. The Rage earned the first tally on the scoreboard. Left winger Trevor Weisgerber skated in on a breakaway from the blueline to score at 7:16.

Weisgerber's goal was the first of an unanswered, four-goal series by the Rage in the second period; All came from four different Rage scorers. Brent Cullaton passed the puck from the right circle to Daymen Rycroft who was open in front of Traylen and scored at 10:05 on the powerplay to give the Rage a 2-0 lead. Just over one minute later, Rocky Mountain's leading scorer, Scott Wray shot the puck top shelf from the left circle. Rosychuk and Clay Plume assisted on the play. Coming into tonight's game, Wray and Laredo's Jeff Bes were tied for the league lead in scoring with 24 points each.

Colt King closed out scoring in the period at 14:50. He picked up an outlet pass from Plume down the left wing. King defeated a Laredo defender in front of the net and slid the puck in on the sick side of Traylen.

Laredo's leading scorer Jeff Bes answered back at 13:03 for the lone goal of the third period. Bes tied it back up in his race to the top spot on the CHL leader board with Rocky Mountain's Wray. Both players have 25 points on the 2007-08 season.
