SOUTHAVEN, Mississippi - The Mississippi RiverKings defeated the Missouri Mavericks 6-1behind Bobby Chaumont's hat-trick Saturday night at DeSoto Civic Center. Mississippi scored twice in the first 1:35 of regulation and added four second-period goals before Tyler Fleck scored the Mavericks lone goal in the third period. Missouri (4-8-1) will play again on Thanksgiving Day when they travel to Tulsa to take on the Oilers.
RiverKings' leading scorer Ryan Held scored just 31 seconds into the game and the home team didn't look back. Chaumont scored the first of his three consecutive goals just a minute later, and the RiverKings took the 2-0 lead into the first intermission.
In the second period, Chaumont tallied a power play goal at 10:37 and he added an even-strength goal at 12:01 to give the RiverKings a 4-0 lead. Forward Ryan Campbell scored shorthanded at the 17:19 mark and Louis Dumont scored with two seconds remaining in the second period to give the RiverKings a 6-0 lead. The period was filled with penalties including 12 combined fighting majors.
Mavericks' captain defenseman Tyler Fleck scored the team's lone goal with 1:12 remaining in the game to prevent the shutout and finalize the score at 6-1. Mississippi outshot Missouri 28-26 and finished 1-4 on the power play. The Mavericks were 0-6 on the power play ending their three-game streak of games with power play goals.
