Thunder Rallies Late, Falls in Shootout

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Thunder lost 4-3 in a shootout to the Tulsa Oilers at the Kansas Coliseum on Saturday night. Down 1-0 in the second and facing a four-minute Tulsa power play, Brandon Kaleniecki knocked in a rebound for a shorthanded, game-tying goal at 9:19. After Oilers took a 2-1 lead on Tyler Butler's power play goal at 12:25 in the third, Mark Adamek re-tied the game at 17:59, burying his first goal of the season on a two-man advantage.

Just 14 seconds later, and on a five-on-four power play, Adamek carried the puck into the Oilers' zone before wristing a shot past Tulsa goaltender Marty Magers to give the Thunder a 3-2 lead. Michel Beausolei made it 3-3 with a goal at 18:30 that snuck past Jon Horrell, who made his return to the Thunder after being signed on Friday.

After neither team scored in overtime, Wichita fell 2-0 in four rounds of the shootout, with TJ Caig and Rob Hisey scoring for the Oilers. Marc Belanger, Brent Ottmann, Glenn Detulleo, and Jason Deleurme went 0 for 4.

Horrell saved 36 of 39 in the shootout loss. The Thunder went 2 for 5 on the power play while their penalty kill unit was 7 for 8. Wichita was outshot 39 to 26. Detulleo notched two assists and now has five in his last two games. Detulleo also extended his point streak to five games, the longest this season for Wichita.

The Thunder plays for a third straight day, taking on the Oilers tomorrow at 4:05 p.m. at the BOK Center.
