Reeder's Hat Trick Ends 'Dogs Losing Streak in 5-4 Shootout Win

Arizona Sundogs News Release

PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - With just four goals in his first 14 games, Konrad Reeder exploded for three in the first 22 minutes of Saturday's contest helping his club to a 5-4 shootout win over the host Amarillo Gorillas.

Skating in their third game in as many nights, the Arizona Sundogs ended a three-game losing streak with the win. Linus Fagemo tallied two points including his fourth goal in the last three games.

Netting the game's first goal for the first time since a 6-3 win over the Corpus Christi IceRays on November 13, Arizona opened a 1-0 lead on Reeder's fifth of the season before Amarillo responded to tie the game at one after 20 minutes of play.

Newly acquired Sundogs forward Brett Hemingway helped to open scoring 9:35 into the contest with a takeaway in the neutral zone before gaining the offensive zone and floating a centering feed to Reeder who redirected the puck past Tuomas Lohtander as he was driving to the net.

The Gorillas pulled even three minutes later on Jake Morissette's ninth of the year from forward Jason Chafe as a wrist shot from Morissette beat J.F. Perras five-hole between the legs.

The Sundogs quickly found themselves up 3-1 in the second period as Reeder netted a pair of goals less than two minutes into the frame but goals by Stuart MacRae and Morissette pulled Amarillo even for the second time in the contest.

Registering the fastest goal to start a period in Sundogs franchise history, Reeder netted his second of the game just six seconds into the middle period with an unassisted tally off the period's initial faceoff.

Reeder completed the hat trick effort a minute and a half later with his and the team's third goal of the contest, firing a slap shot from the top of the circle past Lohtander. Linus Fagemo was credited with the lone assist for his first of two points on the evening.

MacRae cut Arizona's lead back to one at 13:07 with his club on the man advantage after a Kyle Hood cross checking penalty. With possession below the near faceoff dot, MacRae snuck a low shot past Perras for his eighth of the season from Andrew Smale and Joe Guenther.

Morissette's second of the game with 1:22 to play in the second pulled the Gorillas even at three goals apiece as Perras made the initial save but was unable to control a Neil Smith shot from inside the near circle as the defenseman pinched in from the blue line.

Amarillo took their first lead of the contest 5:09 into the third period as the two teams skated 4-on-4. On an odd-man rush, Chris Cloud sent a blast from the near circle past Perras for his second of the year from Gordon Bell.

Trailing for the first time in the contest and with 8:46 to play in regulation, Fagemo responded for Arizona with his seventh point in as many games, redirecting a Mike Nesdill shot from the point to tie the game, 4-4, and eventually force overtime.

The two teams would need a shootout to decide a winner after a scoreless overtime in which both teams gathered quality scoring chances.

Hood, Reeder and Kevin Gardner all scored for Arizona in the shootout while Perras turned aside three of five Amarillo skaters as Guenther and Anthony Battaglia converted for the Gorillas in the loss.

Perras earned the victory to climb back above .500 (5-4-1) with 32 saves on 34 shots while Lohtander suffered the loss with 20 saves on 24 shots. Arizona's struggles on the power play continue as the team finished 0-for-9 with the man advantage while the penalty kill unit held Amarillo to just one power play goal on 10 chances.

Arizona (5-8-2) now returns to Tim's Toyota Center in Prescott Valley for two straight against the Colorado Eagles beginning Friday, Nov. 27. Game time is set for 7:05pm. Tickets start at just $14 and are available by phone at 1-866-4-GET-TIX (1-866-443-889), online at www.gettix.net and in person at the Tim's Toyota Center Box Office.
