RiverDogs win second straight over Legends Charleston starter Zach Nuding allowed one run in six innings, and the RiverDogs captured their second straight win over the Lexington Legends 8-3 Thursday night in Charleston.
The Legends took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning on a home run by Ben Heath, but Charleston struck back for three runs in the fifth. Kevin Mahoney led off with a walk and moved to second base on Shane Brown's single. Kelvin De Leon followed with a bunt single, and when third baseman Mike Kvasnicka threw past first for an error, Mahoney scored to tie the game. Anderson Feliz singled up the middle, scoring Brown and sending De Leon to second. After Garrison Lassiter's sacrifice advanced the runners to second and third, Jose Mojica's ground out brought home De Leon with the third run.
The RiverDogs added two more runs in the sixth. Ramon Flores led off the inning with a home run. Gary Sanchez and Mahoney followed with singles, and they both moved up on a wild pitch. De Leon's sacrifice fly to center field scored Sanchez from third to give Charleston a 5-1 lead.
The Legends scored a run in the seventh on an RBI single by Delino DeShields, Jr., who had three hits in the game. They cut the lead to 5-3 in the eighth when Kvasnicka doubled and scored when Tyler Burnett's ground ball got past shortstop Mojica for an error.
But the RiverDogs answered with three in the bottom of the eighth. With one out, Brown walked and advanced to second on a single by De Leon. Feliz doubled, scoring Brown and sending De Leon to third. After Jorge De Leon relieved Juan Minaya for Lexington, Garrison Lassiter grounded a single up the middle to score Kelvin De Leon and Feliz. Nuding (7-6) picked up the win. Legends' starter Ruben Alaniz (5-7) was the losing pitcher. The series concludes with a 7:05 p.m. game Friday.
