Lakewood Walk off Winners 5-4 Thursday

LAKEWOOD, NJ - The Lakewood BlueClaws took a 2 games to 0 lead in their 3 game series against the Greenville Drive with a 5-4 walk-off win on Thursday night. Miguel Alvarez had the game winning RBI single in the 9th inning with the bases loaded to win if for Lakewood. The BlueClaws out hit the Drive 12-7 in the game, and collected their 8th walk off win of the year.
After blowing a 3-2 lead in the 8th, then allowing Greenville to take the lead in the 9th, the Blueclaws never gave up. Garrett Rau came in the close it out for Greenville as he was going for his 3rd save of the year. In the 9th, Lakewood got a leadoff single from Domingo Santana, an error on the 2B Sean Coyle, a runner thrown out at 3rd, and 2 straight hit by pitches to lad the bases. With 1 out and the bases loaded, Edgar Duran hit a bloop single to LF to tie it at 4-4. That's when Miguel Alvarez stepped up and ripped a line drive RBI single to LF to win it for the BlueClaws.
Lost in the dramatic ending was yet another good start by Jesse Biddle who threw 6 innings and allowed just 2 runs on 3 hits while striking out 8. Jim Murphy hit his team leading 20th HR of the season, and finished 2-4 in the game. Edgar Duran, Domingo Santana, and Anthony Hewitt all finished 2-4 in the game as well, and Carlos Alonso was 2-3. Bill Rice pinch ran for Cameron Rupp in the 9th and ended up scoring the game winning run in his first game in Lakewood as a member of the BlueClaws.
Friday night the BlueClaws will go for the sweep in the 3 game series against Greenville. RHP Garett Claypool (3-5, 3.34 ERA) will start for Lakewood, and RHP Miguel Celestino (7-4, 3.87 ERA) will throw for Greenville. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm on Friday.
