
R-Braves Plate Two in Ninth to Drop Shorebirds, 3-2

Rome, Ga. - The Rome Braves plated two runs in the ninth inning to walk off with a 3-2 comeback win over the Delmarva Shorebirds (45-52, 10-17) at State Mutual Stadium on Thursday night. The Shorebirds have dropped five straight games.
The Shorebirds jumped in front in the first inning. Brenden Webb reached on his 58th walk of the season. He advanced to second on a balk called on pitcher Ryan Weber. Then, Ty Kelly hit a single up the middle that deflected off the glove of the second baseman, allowing Webb to turn around third and score.
In the third, the Shorebirds added a run in part due to another balk by Weber. Ty Kelly singled and reached second on a balk. After two outs were recorded, third baseman Edward Salcedo tossed wide to first base, which allowed Kelly to score.
The Rome Braves got on the board in the fifth inning. Tommy La Stella tripled to deep center field with one out. Then, David Rohm hit a sacrifice fly to right field to bring in La Stella.
The Shorebirds took a 2-1 lead into the ninth inning. David Walters issued a one out walk to Chris Garcia. Evan Gattis then hit a flare single into shallow right-center field to advance pinch runner Kyle Rose to third. Then, Robert Hefflinger hit a liner into left field to score Rose to tie the game at 2-2. The next batter, La Stella, hit a single up the middle and Gattis charged around third and knocked over Ohlman and jarred the ball loose to lift the R-Braves to a 3-2 win.
David Baker was outstanding over seven innings. He allowed just three hits and one run. In 14 innings over his first two starts, Baker has allowed just five hits and one run.
Ashur Tolliver tossed a scoreless eighth inning, his fourth straight outing without surrendering a run.
Ty Kelly went 3-for-5 while Garabez Rosa extended his hitting streak to ten games with a 2-for-4 night.
The Shorebirds and R-Braves play the series finale on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. LHP Jarret Martin is the scheduled starter for Delmarva.
