Brown Promoted from Staten Island; Higashioka Placed on 7-Day DL

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Outfielder Shane Brown has been promoted to the Charleston RiverDogs from the New York Penn League (NYPL), the New York Yankees announced Thursday. In a related move, catcher Kyle Higashioka has been placed on the 7-Day DL.

Brown was tearing the cover off the ball with the Staten Island Yankees, batting .446 while hitting safely in 19 of his last 20 games. The Central Florida product was also hitting for power, clubbing two home runs, six doubles and a triple to drive in five runs, while scoring 21 more.

A 23rd round pick of the Yankees in the 2010 draft, the Winter Park, Florida native ranked 18th in the nation in batting average and 4th in on-base percentage to be named a Louisville Slugger/Collegiate Baseball All-American during his senior season.

Higashioka has been solid since joining the RiverDogs from the High-A Tampa Yankees. The Huntington Beach, California native is hitting .269 with three home runs, 7 RBI, and eleven runs scored in 20 games.
