February 10, 2006 @. Elmira Jackals (5-2 W)

The Richmond RiverDogs began the first of a long six game road trip victorious with a 5-2 victory over the Elmira Jackals before a crowd of 2,507. The RiverDogs jumped out to a 5-0 lead on two goal nights from John DiPace and Jason Cassells. DiPace would add an assist for three points on the night and Bill Vandermeer collected three assists as well. Brian Goudie got the team's fifth goal. Mike Oliveira continued his point-scoring streak, now at 15, with a pair of assists. Oliveira also collected a season high 19 penalty minutes as he collided and did battle with the Jackals Chris Mann. Mike D'Alessandro got the win for the Dogs as he stopped 31 shots.

February 11, 2006 @ Danbury Trashers (5-4 SOW)

The winning continues for the RiverDogs as the team comes from behind to tie and win in the shootout over the Danbury Trashers by the score of 5-4 in a shootout. Dan Vandermeer (3 assists) and Joey Bastien (2 goals, 1 assist) led the waywith three point nights. The RiverDogs went up 3-2 at the end of the second period with goals coming from Bastien, Bobby Kukulka and Mike Oliveira. Danbury came back in the third with a pair to put the Trashers up 4-3 before Bastien's power play tally with 5 minutes left, sending the game into the shootout. Mike D'Alessandro blanked the Trashers on all four of their attempts while Evgeny Lazarev and Bobby Kukulka converted on their attempts, giving the RiverDogs their second straight win in as many games on their six game road swing. Attendance: 2,385.

February 12, 2006 @ Adirondack 3-2 SOL)

The Richmond RiverDogs played well in their battle against the Adirondack Frostbite and battled to a 2-2 tie in regulation, gaining one point in the standings before falling in the shootout. The RiverDogs got goals from Joey Bastien and Mike Oliveira. Former RiverDogs player Ryan Prentice got one of the goals for the Frostbite. The RiverDogs lost Captain Dan Vandermeer mid-way through the first period to a five-minute checking from behind penalty and game misconduct. With the shootout loss, the RiverDogs weekend was a successful one as the team garnered five out of six points in the standings. Attendance: 2,056.

THE WEEK AHEAD:

The RiverDogs will complete their six game road trip beginning on Wednesday, February 15th with a clash against arch-rival Roanoke Valley. Friday night, February 17th, the RiverDogs tangle with defending Colonial Cup Champion Muskegon Fury. The road trip will conclude on Saturday, February 18th as the RiverDogs and Kalamazoo Wings meet for the only time this season at Wings Stadium in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

OLIVEIRA POINT STREAK CONTINUES...PLUS OTHER STATS AND STORIES: Mike Oliveira registered points in all three games over the weekend and extended his UHL league high point scoring streak to 17 games. In the 17 games, Oliveira scored 28 points on 14 goals and 14 assists. Oliveira is currently 4th in league scoring. Dan Vandermeer continues to lead all defensemen in scoring and is 6th overall. Jason Cassells lit the lamp, not once, but twice, in the RiverDogs 5-2 lacing of the Elmira Jackals on Friday. The goals were his first since mid-November. Joey Bastien had a solid week with six points on 3 goals and 3 assists. John DiPace also had six points on the power of two goals and four assists. The RiverDogs have now won 10 out of their last 13 games and is 5-0-1 in the last six contests.

RIVERDOGS PLAYOFF PICTURE: Following the team's strong performance over the weekend, the RiverDogs are now 23-21-5, 51 points, and is still one of the hottest teams in the UHL. The 51 points puts the RiverDogs in eighth place overall in the UHL and two points ahead of Quad City for the final playoff spot. The top two teams in each division (based on points) will qualify for the playoffs. The two teams with the next highest point total will clinch the remaining playoff berths.
