IceHogs streak to overall UHL lead

LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO --- The Rockford IceHogs have used an 11-game winning streak to propel themselves to the top of the United Hockey League (UHL) standings. The IceHogs have not lost in nearly a month and are two games shy of tying the UHL regular season record of 13 consecutive victories held by the Motor City Mechanics.

Rookie center Yannick Tifu has paced all Rockford scorers with 17 points (7g, 10a) during the winning streak. As a team, the Hogs have a plus-77 rating in those games. For the season, every player on the current roster has an even or better rating.

The goaltending tandem of Ronnie Vogel and Michel Robinson has been outstanding during the stretch. Robinson has six of the wins with a 2.00 goals against average (GAA) and a .934 save percentage (SPCT). Vogel has the other five victories with a stellar 1.40 GAA and .950 SPCT. The pair compiled a shutout streak that lasted 151:10 minutes over four games from February 4th to February 11th.

PUHALSKI EARNS 500TH WIN - Fort Wayne's Greg Puhalski earned the 500th win of his coaching career when the Komets defeated the Port Huron Flags 4-1 on Wednesday, February 8th. He is in his 12th season as a head coach and sixth with Fort Wayne. He also coached two seasons with the Port Huron Border Cats of the UHL (1998-2000) and four seasons with the Toledo Storm of the ECHL (1994-98). In 852 games behind the bench, he has compiled a 502-261-89 record. Puhalski currently is the all-time leader in UHL coaching victories (340).

NELSON AND LOACH REACH 1,000 - Muskegon Fury center Todd Nelson played his 1,000th professional game on Saturday, February 11th. Nelson is in his 14th pro season that includes 52 games spent in the National Hockey League (NHL). He ranks second in the UHL this season with 80 points (25g, 55a).

Missouri River Otters left wing Lonnie Loach played the 1,000th game of his 16-year career on Sunday, February 12th. In addition to his 56 games in the NHL, Loach is the Missouri River Otters all-time leading scorer with 313 points (121g, 192a).

AROUND THE LEAGUE

Adirondack Frostbite - (3-0-0) - Right wing Ryan Bennett is riding a four-game goal streak and a six-game point streak...The Frostbite are averaging more than 40 shots per game in their last four contests...Adirondack is 15-3-3 in one-goal games this season and have won their last six decided by one goal...Adirondack is 9-3 in shootouts this season...Dane Jackson is 9-1-0 since taking over as head coach.

Danbury Trashers - (1-1-1) - Danbury is 0 for 8 in shootout attempts in their last two games decided by the extra session. They have lost a league high nine shootouts this season...In Wednesday's 5-2 win vs. Elmira, center Shawn Collymore became the fourth player in team history to record a "hat trick" (3g)...Despite playing in just 29 of 51 games, right wing Brad Wingfield leads the UHL in penalty minutes with 260, an average of 8.96 per game.

Elmira Jackals - (0-2-1) - Defenseman Sean Kotary tallied two assists in his debut with the team on Saturday after being acquired in a trade with Port Huron...With three goals during the week, left wing Kevin Cooper now leads the team with 23 goals this season...Left wing Sam Paolini returned to the lineup after spending 14 games on call-up to Rochester (AHL)...Center Eddy Lowe is eight games away from 500 for his career and five points from 300.

Flint Generals - (2-1-0) - Flint completed a five-game road stretch on Sunday with a record of 2-3-0...The Generals scored three goals in the final ten minutes of the game on Sunday to overcome a two-goal deficit and defeat Muskegon 7-6...Forward Leo Thomas is on a three-game goal streak...Center Terry Marchant had his nine-game assist streak snapped in Friday's 4-3 shootout win vs. Port Huron.

Fort Wayne Komets - (3-0-1) - The Komets are unbeaten in regulation in their last seven games (5-0-2)...Fort Wayne played their 500th game in the UHL on Sunday...Defenseman Rob Guinn dished out his 100th career UHL assist on Wednesday and played in his 400th pro game on Saturday...Left wing Lance Galbraith is riding a seven-game point streak...Left wing P.C. Drouin is on a six-game point streak...The Komets were 8 of 25 (32%) on the power play during the week.

Kalamazoo Wings - (2-1-0) - Kalamazoo set a league season high for goals in a game in their 11-3 victory vs. Port Huron on Sunday. They also set a UHL season high with 64 shots on goal...Center Damian Surma had a team season high five points (2g, 3a) on Sunday...Center Mike Manley set a team season record when he netted his sixth shorthanded goal of the year on Sunday...Goaltender Joel Martin earned his league leading sixth shutout of the season in Saturday's 4-0 win vs. Muskegon.

Missouri River Otters - (0-3-0) - Defenseman Tim O'Connell has a goal in four of his last five games...Over the last ten games, defenseman Jeff Brown leads the team with nine points (1g, 8a)...Left wing Mark Odut has three goals in his last five games...Missouri is 6-4-2 in one-goal games at home this season...The Otters are 8-1-1 when leading after two periods this season...Winger Lonnie Loach played the 1,000th game of his career on Sunday.

Motor City Mechanics - (2-2-0) - Center Adam Edinger is two goals shy of the team record set last season by Joe Burton (36)...Center Brent Gretzky tied a team record when he dished out four assists in Friday's 6-4 win vs. Muskegon. He then dished out the 600th assist of his career in Sunday's 7-3 loss to Fort Wayne...Rookie forward Peter Szabo has a point in nine of his last 11 games...Forward Scott Dobben played his 100th pro game on Sunday.

Muskegon Fury - (0-3-0) - Center Jeff Nelson played his 1,000th professional game on Saturday...With two shorthanded goals in the first period on Sunday vs. Flint, the Fury raised their league leading total to 14 shorthanded goals this season...With the 6-4 loss to Motor City on Friday, the Fury lost for the first time in 71 games when scoring four or more goals (67-0-4). It was also the first loss this season when scoring the first goal of the game (22-1-1).

Port Huron Flags - (1-2-1) - The Flags went to the shootout on both Friday and Saturday. They have played in a league high 16 shootouts this season...Port Huron's last three home games have gone to the shootout...Winger Jim Murphy scored on both of his shootout attempts during the weekend...The Flags snapped a three-game winless streak (0-2-1) with a 5-4 shootout victory vs. Fort Wayne on Saturday.

Quad City Mallards - (1-1-0) - Quad City followed their largest margin of defeat on Friday (7-0 vs. Rockford), with their largest margin of victory on Saturday (7-0 vs. Roanoke)...The seven goals on Saturday were scored by seven different players...Goaltender Jason Tapp made 25 saves to earn his third shutout of the season on Saturday... Defenseman Jami Yoder tallied three points (1g, 2a) on Saturday.

Richmond RiverDogs - (2-0-1) - Center Mike Oliveira has pushed his point streak to 17 games. He has 28 points (14g, 14a) during that span...Forward Jason Cassells had two goals on Friday vs. Elmira. It was his first goal since November 20th...Richmond's games on Saturday and Sunday were both decided by the shootout. Four of the last seven games for the RiverDogs have gone to the extra session.

Roanoke Valley Vipers - (1-1-0) - Rookie left wing Mike Wiggins had his 12-game point streak snapped on Saturday vs. Quad City...Defenseman Joe Koslakiewicz tallied an assist in his first game with the Vipers on Friday...Left wing David Beauregard recorded four points (2g, 2a) in Friday's 6-5 victory at Missouri. He also had four points (4g) in the same building for the 2006 UHL All-Star Classic two weeks earlier.

Rockford IceHogs - (4-0-0) - Rockford is riding a six-game road win streak...Center Yannick Tifu is on a seven-game point streak...Tifu notched his second "hat trick" (3g) of the season on Saturday...Goaltender Ronnie Vogel recorded a shutout on Wednesday vs. Motor City (1-0), then was followed up by a shutout by Michel Robinson on Friday vs. Quad City (7-0)...Rockford has a power play goal in eight straight games...Rookie defenseman Ryan Carrigan has a plus/minus rating of even or better in 27 straight games.
