Vipers Snap Losing Streak

February 13, 2006 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Roanoke Valley Vipers News Release

LAST WEEK'S GAMES: The Vipers finally broke their 10-game winless streak, which lasted nearly the entire month of January, Friday night at the Family Arena in St. Charles, Missouri. David Beauregard scored four points (2G, 2A) in the game Friday against the River Otters, matching the four points (4G) he scored at the venue in the UHL All Star Classic just two weeks ago. The Vipers could not get a streak going, however, as they were shut out in Moline, IL by the Quad City Mallards on Saturday night.

The Roanoke Valley Vipers earned their first win in 11 games on Friday night at the Family Arena in St. Charles, Missouri. New Vipers Head Coach Daniel Berthiaume made his first start behind the bench as he began his head coaching career with a winning record, and netminder Trevor Cunning earned his first win in goal as a Viper. Mike Wiggins extended his point-streak to 12 games, scoring three points (2G, 1A) in the contest, and team captain David Beauregard scored four (2G, 2A), matching his four points (4G) in the UHL All Star Game at the Family Arena in January. New acquisition Joe Koslakiewicz scored his first point as a Viper in his first appearance for Roanoke Valley, tallying an assist on a Mike Wiggins goal.

The Vipers couldn't keep their momentum going from their big win Friday night over the River Otters, as they gave up five first-period goals to the Mallards and one in each of the following periods to fall by a final score of 7-0. New Viper goaltender Dave Marlin came into the game to relieve Trevor Cunning after the latter allowed three goals in the first 4:32 of play. Marlin allowed four goals over the course of the rest of the game, but looked steady otherwise, recording 27 saves in his first appearance as a Viper.

THIS WEEK'S GAMES: The Vipers face each of their Eastern Division opponents one time this week, beginning on Valentine's Day, Tuesday, February 14th in Elmira, NY to close out their eight-game road trip. They'll return home to the Roanoke Civic Center on Wednesday, February 15th to host their in-state rival, the Richmond RiverDogs at 7:05p.m. The Danbury Trashers and Adirondack Frostbite will come to town on Saturday and Sunday at 7:35p.m. and 5:05p.m. The Vipers will be back on the road the following two weeks before starting a busy March schedule, during which they play 16 games, seven of which are in Roanoke.
