RiverDogs Say Good Bye to May with 9-3 Win over Savannah

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Charleston RiverDogs used an eight-run fifth inning and outstanding pitching from Andre Del Bosque and David Palladino to end a six-game losing streak with a 9-3 victory over the Savannah Sand Gnats, Sunday afternoon at Historic Grayson Stadium. The win on the final day of the month gives the RiverDogs an 11-18 record over the 29 games during May.

The RiverDogs (24-26) trailed 2-0 after four frames, but turned things around in a hurry against Corey Oswalt and the Sand Gnats (24-26) in the fifth. Vince Conde walked, Alexander Palma singled and Radley Haddad hit a sacrifice bunt that was bobbled by the pitcher to load the bases with nobody out in the inning.

Ryan Lindemuth got the scoring with an RBI single, the first of his career-high three hits, and Devyn Bolasky hit a fielder's choice to tie the game at 2-2. Angel Aguilar was next and put the RiverDogs in front for good with a two-run double down the line in left.

The next four runs were plated on a fielder's choice, RBI single by Chris Breen, sacrifice fly by Conde and on an error by the first baseman Jon Leroux making it 8-2 in favor of the R'Dogs. It marks the second time this season Charleston scored eight runs in a frame, both have come in Savannah.

The RiverDogs pitching was equally as good as the offense on Sunday, as Del Bosque took the hill for his fifth start of the season and retired the first six men he faced in a row.

He was greeted with a double off the bat of Leroux and a triple from Joe Tuschak in the third, which put Savannah in front 1-0. Tyler Moore followed with a sacrifice fly which doubled their advantage to 2-0, but that would be all the Sand Gnats would manage against the starter.

Del Bosque (3-0) went the requisite five innings and allowed the two runs on four hits, walked one and struck out a pair. Palladino took over in the sixth and retired the first three he faced in order. The tall righty allowed a run to cross in the eighth on a triple and RBI groundout, which trimmed the RiverDogs lead to 9-3. He pitched the final four innings and earned the second save of his season.

Oswalt (3-2) couldn't make it out of the fifth. He took the loss and allowed seven runs, five earned, on seven hits, a walk, and four strikeouts. Three lefties closed out the game on the mound for Savannah. Ben Griset, Paul Paez, and David Roseboom finished by allowing two runs over the final 4 2/3 innings.
