Asheville Tourists News Release

ASHEVILLE, NC-- Play was sloppy on Sunday afternoon and the Augusta GreenJackets took full advantage. The Asheville Tourists committed a season-high seven errors; five by third-baseman Josh Fuentes. Cristian Paulino hit a pair of Home Runs for the visitors as they managed to secure a series split with an 11-5 victory.

Paulino's first Home Run came in the top of the first. With two on and no outs, Paulino lifted a Helmis Rodriguez offering over the 36-foot wall down the right field line. His second Home Run came in the top of the third; this time it was a solo shot to left.

Augusta then plated five in the top of the fourth, in large part due to Asheville's defensive miscues. After the damage James Lomangino came in to relieve Rodriguez and quieted the GreenJackets offense. In the bottom of the fourth Drew Weeks put the Tourists on the board with a two-run single to center. Emerson Jimenez made it 9-3 with an RBI double in the fifth.

Both teams managed two runs in the ninth inning. Asheville's were scored on a Sean Dwyer RBI sacrifice fly and a Jimenez RBI single. Augusta's were both unearned. The Tourists did finish with 11 hits but never really threatened the GreenJackets.

Augusta's Matthew Gage earned the win with six innings pitched while E.J. Encinosa picked up the save by tossing the final three frames. Asheville will next entertain the Savannah Sand Gnats with a three game series beginning on Monday night. The first pitch is at 7:05pm.
